I worked at Western Digital full-time

    Pros

WD makes money, challenges every penny. Very good at things when the group focuses.

    Cons

Centralized decision making, no innovation as new ideas are stifled from sr mgmt.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Benchmark. There is a reason why every start up in Silicon Valley issues laptops!

I have been working at Western Digital full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

After the acquisition of HGST, WD is one of the duopoly companies in magnetic storage business (the other is Seagate). Therefore if you have a stable position in the company that means job security. The jobs are also hard to outsource. In hardware business, I would say it is pretty good in terms of base salary and profit sharing.

    Cons

Company is very tight on everything else such as Perks, insurance and working environment. That is the in culture of WD since that is how it is survived in the price-sensitive cusumer storage market (PC and external storage) with low profit margin. Also the company has a tradition that

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Western Digital full-time

    Pros

Work half the week, get the other half off due to 12 hour shifts.

    Cons

Working in the FAB can be potentially dangerous for you long-term

Being hired through the temporary agency, you will likely never be promoted to a permanent worker.

Coworkers are mostly older with huge cultural influences at play. Groups of ethnicities will stick to each other.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Managers, please pay more attention to who pulls their weight and who doesn't. The developers definitely need to make the internal tracking system work a lot better, but they seem like they're stuck to their old tracking system.

There's a lot that can be done for optimization...
