    Pros

Its nice and the scenery is nice. The job is not that hard pretty much anybody could do it.

    Cons

Management doesn't really know what they are doing. The schedule changes constantly. Double shifts at times.

I worked at Westin part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Sometimes I would get free food samples from the restaurant. That's about it. I was old enough to work for Westin/Starwood, but not old enough to use any of my hotel perks, like discounted room rates.

    Cons

The "office" environment is terrible. I worked in the back, in a room that was about 10x15 at a maximum. No color aside from nasty grey carpet, icky tan walls, grey countertops and whiteboard cabinets. There was no potential for growth (I was never moved to front desk, which I was supposedly hired for). Management is not efficient.

This is worse than a call center environment, as you will answer phones, doing literally every function of the hotel for guests (not allowed to transfer calls to other departments). Front desk will not answer a call if they have a guest in front of them, but has no problem calling you 5 times when you are on the phone with other guests.

The work environment is loud, since you are right across from the kitchen, so if you want to hear your phone calls, you have to close the little window, preventing any airflow into the room. Oh, and the uniforms are atrocious and uncomfortable.

You also will work 8 hour shifts with no breaks, not even for minors. Guests on the phone will often be upset because there are not enough people to do the jobs required to run a hotel. If you like to leave work hating your job, this is the place for you. For people in the hospitality industry, you would think they could do better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in your employees. Give them breaks and do not schedule them at 100% occupancy by themselves. It is impossible and unfair to manage that load, let alone get a bathroom break in. Your company values do not align with the way you treat your employees.
PS: It is illegal to not offer breaks to minors, and employees working 8 hour shifts should be offered breaks as well.

I worked at Westin full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Benefits if you can find out how to get access to them from Human Resources personal growth if you can be best friends with the general manager of the hotel, plenty of rooms to stay in because you are never going home once you start.

    Cons

Hard to use earned time-off, unattainable bonus structure that changes when good for the company, and ridiculous labor cost percentage that had never been achieved in the life of the hotel.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start over with the hiring/screening process for all upper management. They are throwing your money away, and using the good ole boy system to manage and throw around their power. Inconsistencies, lies, not following through on contracts, very hostile environment.

I worked at Westin full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Regular Raises
    Good Compensation
Management holds activities for housekeeping week
You will get lots of hours
Employees get discounts on hotel rooms

    Cons

    Schedule is not flexible
    Job is VERY demanding
Your job is ALWAYS on the line
If you try to transfer to a different department, coworkers will try to get you in trouble so that you can't leave.
Sometimes they give you a ridiculous number of rooms to do, but expect everything to be perfect.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should not push workers so hard, because when their body gives out on them the Westin is not going to take care of them.

I worked at Westin full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great employees. Hotel has an amazing cliental base. The sales team is above par. Management is helpful in working with employees to further their careers.

    Cons

Hotel needs to recognize employees more. The Westin is owned by HEI Hotels and Resorts, not Starwood Hotels and Resorts. I do not feel the pay wages for hourly associates is appropriate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look into compensation issues for hourly employees.
