I have been working at Westin full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Management is friendly and employees get along
They reimburse you for purchases towards your uniform
Employee recognition is easy to come by
    Small tight knit staff
A lot of the time management will bring snacks and goodies in for us to enjoy
    Beautiful property, well maintained
For the most part, we have great clients and events
A lot of the staff is knowledgeable about their jobs

    Cons

    Chaotic work environment
There is no efficient working system
Everything is about saving money. Even if we don't have any materials left they won't order unless a customer complains
    Inventory? What inventory?
We have a very low amount of materials needed to do the job
There is a communication issue between departments, and there is a major gossip issue within departments
The knowledgeable employees won't pass down information to the less knowledgeable

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Buy materials before it's too late, have more organized and efficient ways of doing things, be more fair to the employees. Majority of them are way overworked and underpaid.

I worked at Westin part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The good aspects about this job is that it pays very well for the amount of work. Good dental and health care benefits and flexible working hours.

    Cons

It's hard to obtain a full time schedule if your barely hired or new. Only those who have been there for a long time receive higher scheduling priority.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's hard to get promoted, even if you have a good work ethic. My suggestion is to honor employees with good work values and efficiency.

I have been working at Westin part-time

    Pros

Once you get your work done, it's pretty much smooth sailing afterwards.

    Cons

It's customer service, so of course you will encounter guests who are very rude.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Communication is important.

    Pros

Its nice and the scenery is nice. The job is not that hard pretty much anybody could do it.

I worked at Westin part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Sometimes I would get free food samples from the restaurant. That's about it. I was old enough to work for Westin/Starwood, but not old enough to use any of my hotel perks, like discounted room rates.

    Cons

The "office" environment is terrible. I worked in the back, in a room that was about 10x15 at a maximum. No color aside from nasty grey carpet, icky tan walls, grey countertops and whiteboard cabinets. There was no potential for growth (I was never moved to front desk, which I was supposedly hired for). Management is not efficient.

This is worse than a call center environment, as you will answer phones, doing literally every function of the hotel for guests (not allowed to transfer calls to other departments). Front desk will not answer a call if they have a guest in front of them, but has no problem calling you 5 times when you are on the phone with other guests.

The work environment is loud, since you are right across from the kitchen, so if you want to hear your phone calls, you have to close the little window, preventing any airflow into the room. Oh, and the uniforms are atrocious and uncomfortable.

You also will work 8 hour shifts with no breaks, not even for minors. Guests on the phone will often be upset because there are not enough people to do the jobs required to run a hotel. If you like to leave work hating your job, this is the place for you. For people in the hospitality industry, you would think they could do better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in your employees. Give them breaks and do not schedule them at 100% occupancy by themselves. It is impossible and unfair to manage that load, let alone get a bathroom break in. Your company values do not align with the way you treat your employees.
PS: It is illegal to not offer breaks to minors, and employees working 8 hour shifts should be offered breaks as well.
