I have been working at Westin full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

GM at my location is a great guy.
Coworkers I work with are easy to get along with.
Get to see quite a few famous people which is cool.
You can get promoted easily if you are friends with HR and management. Be sure to try to hang out with them outside of work because you will definitely get a promotion this way.
A lot of leeway in how we handle guest issues.

    Cons

Employee discount is expensive and too many black out dates.
    Work-life balance is nonexistent.
    Hardly any formal training.
Lower level management is severely lacking.
High turnover in front office staff.
Pay is low in my department for the work we do and the stress we endure.
They hire some really dumb and inexperienced people for all jobs.
Platinum guests are often very hard to get along with, but they get whatever they ask for.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire competent employees. Monitor work relationships closer to avoid HR promoting their friends.

I have been working at Westin full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits like health insurance, 401K plan, free lunch and dinner.
Great networking with clients who are regulars.
    Meet new people all time
Eye opening to the world of hospitality
Improve teamwork skills with the front desk and other departments
    Flexible schedule

    Cons

No exact training, they kind of throw you out into the waters and expect you to swim gracefully
Huge turnover rate at the front desk, always short staffed
    Sometimes work overtime
Since the front desk is where people dispute their complaints, it can be a very high stress environment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please develop a consistent training program for new employees, so we feel confident about beginning work.
Hire more people, I understand you are trying to save money, but people can get burnt out if overworked all the time.

The people are amazing. The location is beautiful!!! This place is a kick in the door to get experience. Learn and grow - move up quickly in positions or other departments which looks great on the resume for future job applications. Very flexible - I went to school and they worked around my schedule.

    Cons

The Pay is low - not worth the hours. Just get your experience and move on.
