I have been working at Westlake Chemical full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The company is very stable financially and has enjoyed tremendous success over the past few years. Excellent overall benefits package which includes a flexible work arrangement schedule, generous 401k matching and bonuses based on company's performance. The management has paid close attention to the needs of its employees and the corporate offices are being completely renovated and modernized and a flexible work arrangement program has been recently implemented! Lots of opportunities to learn if you enjoy being a multi-tasker. The Executive level management team is wonderful.

    Cons

Some approval processes take a while and that can be frustrating and some types of changes can be painfully slow at times. The corporate offices are in the Galleria area so you have to deal with traffic on a daily basis. Then again, all of the Houston roadways seem to be congested anyway!

I have been working at Westlake Chemical full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

I have worked for Westlake Chemical for over 7 years. Since starting with Westlake, I've seen the company improve benefits, salaries, and perks while many other companies were moving in the opposite direction. Most recently, our company has implemented a Flexible Work Arrangement program; compressed work weeks and flexible work hours. I know I am excited about this new program, as are many others. Also, I enjoy working with the people at Westlake, both in our plant site and with those at our corporate office. Our company invests a lot of money in the training and development of the employees. And while Westlake overall is a great company to work for, I specifically enjoy working at the Longview plant site; very short commute, slower pace of life (work still requires a faster pace, but when I'm off, I'm off), and a family focused community.

    Cons

Lengthy approval processes. Some systems need to be modernized. Push authority down to plant site level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Westlake Chemical full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

If you are a person with a "go-getter" attitude who wants to be a positive force for change and develop professionally in the process, Westlake offers a lot of opportunities for skill set expansion, creative problem-solving and stepping outside of your comfort zone. Input from employees is valued by Management, and there are also a lot of very positive, employee-focused movements in the works! The big decisions are made very carefully and selectively, such as the recent acquisition of Vinnolit, and the result is a very strong, well-positioned company that should continue to grow and perform impressively from a financial and production standpoint.

    Cons

It takes some time to be able to be able to adapt to what appears to be a Chinese-American hybrid culture that values hard work, honesty and accountability but that also operates in a hierarchical manner, which is evident in the stringent and even excessive approval processes that can cause unnecessary delays.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue positive improvements being made to promote greater employee collaboration and engagement as well as employee appreciation through pay/benefit programs, updating the office environments and internal process improvement.

Constantly growing company with good corporate culture. Always a new challenge (in a good way), never boring. Good people, good benefits. Upper management is very open to employees and their feedback
    Good work-life balance.

    Cons

Occasionally may have to work longer hours but very flexible and accommodating if you have to leave early.

    Pros

Location in Galleria area. Not many pros for this company unless you enjoy being dedicated to a Chinese sweat shop that don't promote women.

    Cons

Unprofessional; manage by fear; principles from the 1980s. Most time spent on irrelevant activities. A Chinese sweatshop. Warning to all professional HR --avoid at all costs

    Pros

Compensation is fair, benefits are ok, and profit sharing is good

    Cons

If you are a person of color do NOT tick anyone off. Once you're on THAT list you might as well start looking for another job because you WILL be pushed out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

Location is ok. Many things are walking distance w/Galleria right across the street.

    Cons

Very dated. Everything is monitored and limited. Salaried Exempt employees now have to use a time stamping system when arriving and departing. No structure and unorganized.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop favoritism and counting every penny to where employees feel as though they are not appreciated.
