    Pros

Fantastic leadership by Gail Kelly. Culture, diversity and employee engagement is important to this company. Theres many opportunities to move within the company.

    Cons

None really, but I guess it depends what team/division you work for which will depend on compensaton, promotions etc. As much as you don't want, theres politics in every employer.

    It's up to you!

I worked at Westpac Banking full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The strength of people in the organisation are some of the best I have seen so far, the employees are the backbone of that business and most are resilient. You will learn life skills and realise your full potential in this company. I went to Westpac initially because had read and reviewed so many wonderful things and you will always see glimpses of this.

    Cons

Dog eat dog culture in the retail space, no clear communication of message, every single day it will demand all your time. The organisation has been in trouble for years, you will see that quickly. Aways be fighting fires with management & in your business as nothing ever gets fixed, red tape and poor systems. If you like stress and unreliable work life balance and like the idea of needing therapist to cope then join.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn from the innovators, stop making westpac look great on the outside and deal with the masses of problematic dramas that go on within the company & especially the retail space. The business model doesn't work, a review is in desperate need. People need to learn that this place is not an ok place to work, some people have been bullied out of their jobs because of the culture that has become so evidently disgusting when it comes from the top. You have contacts in the industry so go and learn from the people that do it the best and start to do what is actually best practice, also try not to start one week and forget the next over and over.

Former Employee - Technical Business Analyst in Adelaide (Australia)

I worked at Westpac Banking full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people, effective training. Absolutely fantastic community service (ie fund raisers etc)

    Cons

Not very flexible rostering, Very outdated software, upper management cares to much about numbers and not customer perception when it comes to performance reviews. So much red tape between departments make simple tasks very hard. Some departments can be very toxic. More recently off-shoreing so many jobs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start supporting Australia as you claim you do by keeping jobs in Australia. Listen to the staff more. Work on identifying toxic departments and work to solve their issues. Keep up the great work with charity etc!

Some great people, socially the organisation is very focused on community etc, lots of staff involvement in charity works etc

    Cons

Too many 'compartments' - hard to get things completed, even the 'no-brainers' get knocked back.

    Pros

Depending on the area, team and manager it can be sometimes satisfying.

    Cons

Us and them attitude.. "Management" and "workers" divide is very prevalent. Top heavy and too many "consultants. Outsourcing of many of the functions has created some very inefficient processes.

    Pros

Lots of career opportunities. Westpac invest in their employees through thorough training and a great management team. If you're willing to work hard and efficiently then your work life balance can be fantastic.

    Cons

LBB bonus scheme had many flaws however management are looking at updating this. Sometimes management decisions would filter down without thought of how they work in local communities and it is difficult to implement them.
