Great experience however the company is at a cross roads

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGreat salary/benefits (health and dental, RRSP matching)
Great co-workers (willing to help out if you ask)
Good work life balance (flex hours, work from home, etc)

Constransition from a start up to a multinational public company has been bumpy
Lack of communication from Executive team to rest of company - they use town halls to sugar coat what is happening. There were a bunch of layoffs in 2013 and I haven't heard any senior exec even acknowledge that they happened.

Advice to Senior ManagementCommunicate more with employees beyond financial results, town halls happen every quarter but so much is happening in between

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

ProsGood health and dental benefits, flex work hours, good co workers,

ConsPoor management, horrible and poor HR team with lack of knowledge and support, favouritism, money burning company and after they burn up everything they keep laying off the lower level employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet your act together

    – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Don't waste your time or talent here

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Plymouth, MI

ProsPeople are diverse and very knowledgeable. Travel budget is unlimited with no restrictions on alcohol while entertaining.

ConsEvery 6 months they're re-organizing and changing their business model. People never get to excel and meet objectives. Constant changes and lay-offs becomes very daunting leaving people to wonder if they're next to be cut. Very high turn-over for this type of company.

Advice to Senior ManagementStick with one business model. Constant change in direction wastes a lot of investor money.

    Poorly managed

    Test Technician (Former Employee)
    Vancouver, BC (Canada)

Pros- cool technology with great potential
    - great benefits and employer RRSP
    - CEO seems to be able to secure enough investment to keep operations going

Cons- Management is overrun by engineers - engineers are directing marketing and HR departments rather than professionals with appropriate experience and education
    - constant culture of fear and uncertainty amongst employees

Advice to Senior ManagementGet qualified people in leadership positions. Allowing engineers to take the helm of all departments and functions creates improper vision and work environment.

Revolving door, terrible management, no focus. STAY AWAY!!!

    Design Engineer (Current Employee)
    Vancouver, BC (Canada)

    Pros- Good coworkers
    - OK benefits
    - OK work/life balance

Cons- Arrogant engineering managers with no university degrees, no ability to lead and no clue about the products, market or projects
    - Promotions are given based on favouritism and who you kiss up to, NOT performance
    - Terrible HR department
    - No sense of responsibility and accountability ANYWHERE in the company. Quick to blame everyone else

Advice to Senior Management- Stick to one business plan
    - Put qualified people in leadership position
    - Listen to your employees, acknowledge them and recognize their strengths
    - There's no problem that firing the top 10 people wouldn't solve

Bad management lacking strategy, vision and discipline

    Design Engineer (Current Employee)
    Vancouver, BC (Canada)

ProsThere is some flexibility in terms of work life balance. The coworkers are nice for the most part. The pay and perks are good, but not great.

ConsThe pompous management is Westport's demise. They are constantly reacting to various crisis instead of planning ahead. Every week they appoint someone new to a VP position with hopes of performing a miracle. They fall flat on their face and burn more investor money in the process. They have most of their eggs in the wrong baskets. Internal communication is nearly nonexistent and everybody is constantly caught by surprise.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet your act together. Focus on one thing. Stop wasting the investors' money and produce something that works. Appoint worthy people to leadership position.
