I have been working at Wet Seal part-time for more than a year
Pros – Salary was competitive compared to other brands in the industry. I was lucky to have a great district manager who supported me and my team and kept the flow of communication constant and open.
Cons – High level of units in the store, which made visual moves and inventory difficult. Shoplifting seemed to be more prevalant than other places i had worked, so you must really be on top of loss prevention. The company was going through many changes and financial hardships while I was there, which created some fear among employees. Management was given so many operational tasks without appropriate payroll hours to support. This made it difficult for management to do what they were best at, which was sales and sales training.
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to store feedback and streamline redundant tasking.

I worked at Wet Seal
Pros – The discount made the price more reasonable for the type and quality of clothing sold.
Cons – Called in to work on days off. Called in for "meetings" that were in fact nothing of the sort but instead a way for the manager to get everyone in the store to revamp the place, regardless of the inappropriate attire (high heels, etc.) being worn on days, or time off. Unprofessional. Reported it to upper management and still nothing changed.
Advice to Senior Management – More organization. More professionalism. No calling of "meetings" on days off which turn into working on your day off without being properly notified of such. More communication and team work. As well as mere respect for employees and their time.

Pros – It really depends on who your supervisor is that makes or break the job but it starts from above. Working in a retail job always involves sales pressure but that's normal in my opinion working at a couple of retail stores in my life. Its how your boss communicates to you that really makes a difference. Here I feel like its my job to sell and make money for the company in return I get my benefits and great discount. Overall I think the new leadership in the company is great, incentives and recognition is awesome and the company has a sense of where it wants to be in the next year.
Cons – Old leadership was horrible but that has been fixed. There is pressure to comp and reach stores goals but like I said its part of the job so if you are not willing to do this then its not for you. Many employees have a lot of cons based on their performance and I don't think it is fair because it's what you bring to the table that determines results...bringing me back to this might not be for you. Now if you work for another district outside LA and you have poor management then your kind of out of luck.
Advice to Senior Management – Leadership should really look into the feedback they get from customers and employees. I know some customers and employees complain over non sense stuff sometimes but if its consistent behavior call outs by different people then leadership should performance manage for that specific store and do random audits and observations without letting the team know. You will be amazed out the stuff that you might find.

I worked at Wet Seal
Pros – easy, repetitive work! Paper work consists or re- writing things over and over! very simple... Great employee discount! 40% !
Cons – Managers are responsible for everything! Cleaning, processing shipment, emails, fixing dents and painting walls, changing mannequins, marketing , visual, floor sets, dealing with random bull from corp. NOT A SMART COMPANY! they waste money left and right on stupid directives!!! The company over all is very dramatic!!! Everyone talks crap about everyone, and smiles to their face! the district directors are power hungry and want to advance... all they care about is looking good to their RM ( regional manager) they always slack and want you to pick up their slack
Advice to Senior Management – dont say anything! Dont trust anyone ! Focus on your own job and get through everyday! Make sure you follow procedures because it is very easy to get something pinned on you ! People Narc on you all the time, casually and behind your back! BE SMART and start looking for another job FAST lol

Pros – Ok discount, nice clothes, good music.
Cons – You only get promoted if you befriend the dm. If you do enough @ss kissing, then you'll get your own store or get moved into a higher volume store. Its without a doubt a "who you know" environment and if they want to get rid of anyone to plot someone else taking your spot, they'll "find" reasons to write you up in order to get you out. Its a catty cult like environment and I'd NEVER suggest working there. Its a disgusting, fake, cold place to be, especially when you put your heart and sweat into it and it doesn't matter unless you throw someone under the bus & "rat people out" to keep your own job.
Advice to Senior Management – Wake up and stop letting certain DM's who don't deserve their positon, walk around with starbucks all day, "run" a disgustingly fake, two faced, lets step on people who we don't personally like, and let "certain managers" get away with not meeting expectatins because we're friends, district. Its a complete circus. Open your eyes.

I have been working at Wet Seal
Pros – - Enjoyed my team and the fast pace.
- Flexible schedule; great benefits
- Great discount; great product
- fun fashion
Cons – -Worked a lot of over time; worked extremely hard and received minimal appreciation or acknowledgement.
- Hardly any support from dd and corporate
- No appreciation for personal life outside of work
Advice to Senior Management – If you like to work under extreme pressure and challenge yourself; manage a 3A store or larger (room for advancement if you can manage this). If you like a slower pace and want to reap the full benefits of this company and personal life work in a 2A store or smaller (little room for advancement).
I loved my team and actually loved the job itself. Unfortunately, the dd wasn't very knowledgeable and it reflected in our district. The manager was unprofessional and often left the co manager and assistants to fend for themselves; taking litte responsibility for the store. Wet seal could be an amazing company to work for if they fine tuned a lot of their upper management flaws.

I have been working at Wet Seal
Pros – Great people, great discount, easy, the store manager was great to work for and my coworkers got along very well. If I needed some time off it was given to me and work with people is the best part.
Cons – Well. Lots of miscommunication and drama going on. Most of it because the store manager didn't have the support from her upper management, they usually would hear what everybody else has to say but her. The unprofessionalism is unbelievable coming from the DD so if you are looking for a store manager position with Wet Seal, be very careful. You won't have someone that supports your decisions and if you fire somebody your DD might go over your head to call the associate back without telling you. Also, she bad mouth you to your own team. I felt bad to the good store manager that left because of the lack of support. She also wasn't from United State and often my DD would tell her to watch her grammar, that was very rude and unprofessional!!!
Advice to Senior Management – Appreciate the good managers you have and learn how to support your management team so they can feel in control. Be professional when you speak to your employees and stop helping the gossip and later blaming on somebody else. Leadership starts from top, middle and then bottom and not from the top straight to the bottom. You need to partner with your store manager and make the decisions together and not going behind her back and bad mouth her to the other managers and sales associate.

-Flexible Schedule, understanding of personal things going on in an individuals life
-Fun work environment
-Enjoyed the atmosphere and actually enjoyed visits from our DM
(was always professional and constructing criticisms, so that we could better our store & district)
-Easy to promote from within
-Great coaching and training
Cons – -Pay was less than satisfactory, but it was an entry level management job so thats expected
-Cliental of my particular demographic was less than satisfactory but that had nothing to do with the company.

I have been working at Wet Seal
Pros – Everyone is nice and friendly. They don't look down on you just because you're new. Instead, they try and teach you as much as possible.
Cons – No open-toed shoes. ): No sneakers. So you're done to flats and boots. The store gets switched around every week, so it's a lot to do keeping up with the changes.
Advice to Senior Management – I honestly love Wet Seal very much. The manager is super friendly and she's flexible with our schedules. I think the only suggestion I have is to consider sneakers.
