I worked at Wet Seal full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

40% discount. inexpensive swim wear and sandals. Visual merchandising freedom ( if you know what you're doing) if you're lucky meet some great people

    Cons

Rarely get face time with DM and Corp. Visitors from Corp would stay at the hotel across the street and not stop in our store. This leaves little room to voice your concerns and needs. Management is Very clique-y. If you're not in there "in Crowd" good luck with any promotion or raise. They'll Set you up for failure, quickly, if you don't pay attention. Definitely racism in some districts. Pay is laughable they currently have an ASM getting paid $8.50.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hard work deserves good pay and acknowledgement. Don't let the District managers plan your visits. They steer you away from stores that have already voiced concerns and had nothing done and have been ignored.

I worked at Wet Seal part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Fun work environment, casual dress code, able to socialize, store discount, incentives (usually gift cards, merchandise, discounts)

    Cons

Physically demanding, no regular breaks, hard to get lots of hours, raises suck, irregular schedules

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My best experiences here were when the managers acted upbeat and friendly toward sales associates, not just toward customers. It is difficult to be friendly to customers when your manager is not friendly to you. It's best to keep a genuine positive attitude no matter who you are talking to, customer or employee. When you treat the employees differently, you come off as fake. From the Longview store, I saw mostly great examples of a good attitude and friendly atmosphere, but at other stores I've observed, not so much. Just make sure you're not one of those stores where when you walk in to work, you feel stressed out and can't quite figure out why. Attitude is everything!

I worked at Wet Seal part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The other sale's associates I worked with were really fun. Very fast paced, & goal oriented.

    Cons

Management was terrible made it very unbearable to work there. I was attending school at the time & they were unwilling to work with me on my schedule.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider speaking to employs instead of screaming.

    Pros

Love all of the people that I work with, they make working there worth while. More hours during the winter.

    Cons

Grumpy customers every now and then -- no matter what customer service job you work, you have to deal with them though. Hours decrease during the summer (at least where I work they do)

I have been working at Wet Seal part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

No benefits except associate discounts for part time employees.

    Cons

Management is pretty unorganized, managers sometimes don't show up on time or sometimes not at all, so you're waiting outside for minutes to even hours. Managers have been caught shoplifting and when it was reported to the district manager, they did nothing at all.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should look into employees backgrounds. One manager was rehired after being fired for "internal issues" and caused a branch to close down and yet they were rehired and is still doing the same thing at this location.
