I worked at Wet Seal full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Store team was awesome and we all worked very well together.

    Cons

DM and upper management were a joke. Constantly changing their minds, lack of communication and no help from them when we needed it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your store staff. We are the ones in the store daily dealing with customers etc.. We know what we're talking about. Don't come in and start complaining about how things are done, changing things to your liking when it's unrealistic.

I worked at Wet Seal full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I loved my District Director. She genuinely cared about her management staff. Kind considerate and did anything to make our work environment a better place for us.

    Cons

The Wet Seal Corp. office is insensitive and narcissistic. Slamming a mass lay off on us on January 2. Hundreds of store closings and thousands of managers and sales associates out of jobs. No severance packages. Payroll severely messed up our final paychecks. Some employees out hundreds of dollars. We haven't gotten our payroll adjustments and payroll is refusing to return any phone calls. This has NOTHING to do with store level personally or our district managers. None of us saw this happening. Inhumane.

I have been working at Wet Seal

    Pros

People overall are extremely loyal and committed. There is a passion in the field for success, and they are some of the most loyal people (to brand but more so each other) that anyone could find in retail. Great benefits for management.

    Cons

Corporate is totally disconnected from the field and business. From merchandise to store locations, people making these decisions are rewarded for failure while the field pays the price. Is not willing to pay for talent, and training bad. No orientation and no time to get anyone where they need to be. Hires at every level are for warm bodies out of desperation.

Company restructuring, yet keeps a poor regional in the east and demotes a more experienced and successful regional to a district director who understands the business and actually cares about people. That speaks volumes to how serious they are about retaining good people and former corp execs really caring about how to keep the business successful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust you people. Hire talent at competitive rates in order to be successful. You don't demote leaders and keep poor, vindictive, and out of touch regionals who have everyone else do their job for them (East), and will throw everyone under the bus who dares to challenge their incompetence. Hope the company makes a comeback.

    developed great relationships with employees
    employee discount

    Cons

    Corporate is terrible
    hides things from employees
let everyone go with a one day notice

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let employees know two weeks in advance that they are being let go and stop keeping secrets. We all knew we were getting laid off but to keep giving everyone the run around about it is not professional.
