I worked at Weyerhaeuser full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

I worked as a research technician for several years. The tech center has some plush extras, including a cafeteria and gym. Both were excellent. Comradery of fellow technicians was a big plus.

    Cons

Extremely male dominated company. Very few women in management, virtually none in upper management. Like taking a step back in time. Sexism and sexual harassment are far too prevalent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Promote women.

I have been working at Weyerhaeuser full-time

    Pros

Great people, decent work-life balance, decent pay

    Cons

Cost cutting environment during an economic upturn. Selling off business divisions piecemeal over the last decade to make money. More work with fewer people and small raises.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Forgetting to appreciate and compensate your employees for more work is a really bad idea, lowers morale, and nudges employees toward jumping ship.

  5. Soulless, gutless, clueless

I worked at Weyerhaeuser full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Pay and benefits are pretty standard but company no longer offers pension to new hires. Very safety conscious. Brand name is respected in lumber and OSB. Good at growing saw timber.

    Cons

During my career I saw Weyco go from an honorable company with outstanding leadership, values and culture to a snakepit that would make Chainsaw Al proud. The new norm is managers are expected by their gutless bosses to show how tough they are by firing people. HR used to make sure employees were treated fairly and consistently but now they lead the fire 'em all bandwagon. Management is clueless about strategy and blindly follows consultants from one convoluted plan to the next. Worse yet, they never pay a price for their epic failures, like iLevel and SAP......that honor goes to the workers in the mills and branches who lose their jobs because of these pathetic putzes. Won't be long and they'll jettison CF, TJ, OSB and Distribution, and more good people will be looking for work. But as long as the SMT continues to pocket boatloads of stock options and outrageous bonuses, who gives a crap, right?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your army of overpaid yes men and consultants won't tell you this, but you really, truly and sincerely suck.

    I worked at Weyerhaeuser

    Pros

For many years this was a great place to work. Very family oriented. Great co-workers. 10 years ago I would have given this company five stars in every category. Now unfortunately things are very different as they are for many companies.

    Cons

Due to the economy there were constant lay-offs. You never knew when it was going to be your time.

I worked at Weyerhaeuser full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

They are very big on safety. What I have learned, I have taken with me. Pay is good, as well as benefits. Very good people to work with, while I was there.

    Cons

Long hours if you work shift, but well worth it with the time off.
Very difficult to come back there, even if you leave on good terms and excellent work record, after 9 years with them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Human Resource need to get a grip on their hiring. Letting good people get away, that have experience, to let people off the street, with none, come in just to get a paycheck.
