Pros
Support diversity in its policy
Generally good working environment
Cons
Promotion and Performance evaluation process could be done a lot better and more transparent.
People in Finance Leadership Program has better opportunity to learn from various job functions, in a way it disadvantage people outside this program
Advice to Senior Management
Finance organization doesn't appreciate and reward their people as well as other organization withing the company
Pros
Global company with lots of opportunity (especially if your from a low cost region).
Cons
Very political environment. Engineers are treated like a stranger off the street.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees.
Pros
Great brands with long historical ties to the communities. Strong commitment to US manufacturing and communities where the company resides.
Cons
Difficult place to be a women in leadership, most leave because of a lack of oppotunity for advancement and the feeling of not belonging. Whirlpool talks a lot about diversity, but when the rubber hits the road its the white male who wins.
People change jobs too frequently and the lack of continuity slows down all the processes.
Advice to Senior Management
Start investing in innovation and the brands, stop trying to cut costs. There are a number of ways to increase operating profit and cutting costs is only one.
Pros
Variety of experience, diversity, depth of talent, performance orientation, relationships and opportunity within a global corporate environment
Cons
Overlap of roles and accountabilities can be a little frustrating. Can be a politically charged environment which requires an awareness and consideration for the impact of others on your career.
Advice to Senior Management
It is amazing to see the energy, activity, focus and pressure placed on such a large organization so committed to short term quarter to quarter results. If you could refocus some of that energy in proactive activities that add value it would be a valuable use of high priced talent.
Pros
Market share leader, Excellent product quality, ok innovation, excellent leadership training, great total comp package including excellent benefits, management allows for some work/life balance, very open communication.
Cons
Way too slow to market. Conservative product development process delays many product launches and often allows competition to get the upper hand on introducing new technologies.
Drive for quarterly results leads to some decisions that have negative long-term consequences.
Although there is a well developed talent tracking program promotions are often politically motivated. No tolerance for missing a quarter regardless of extenuating circumstances.
Advice to Senior Management
Be more open to feedback from the Employee Engagement survey. Don't dismiss negative outcomes as "childish employees". Deal with the result in a meaningful way.
Pros
The high majority of management here at Whirlpool treat you with respect. Promotion from within is BIG here, any job openings are filled within the ranks unless no one wants it. The pay is at the high end of the scale for this area (when I tell people I work at Whirlpool, they always say "Making the big bucks, eh?") I am already making more after less than one year with Whirlpool than I was after 5 with my previous employer. Sure, there is always one moron within the ranks, but by far this has been a very positive work experience for me.
Cons
My only complaint is the fact that you must go through a temp service and work for them for a minimum of 9 months before being considered for hire at Whirlpool. It takes most temps at least 2 years as a temp to get hired in, but last year Whirlpool did more hiring than in the last 3 years combined here, so I was hired in after 9 months.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work. Don't be afraid to ruffle some feathers, though. There are a few malcontents that bring down others that may need some "counselling".
Pros
Whirlpool is a very moral company with good values. They pay reasonably and the area that the company is located in is quaint.
Cons
Management is incredibly short sighted and not very bright. Always looking at reducing cost while doing idiotic things to hit their goals. There was some good talent at the director level but most of it left.
Advice to Senior Management
Management needs to get a better picture of the whole company strategy and think about innovation. Also, we see through all their "turn it on" initiatives.
Pros
Whirlpool values the employee providing opportunity to grow in the career and respecting the weaknesses of each one. As well as reward the achievements
Cons
as a huge company, the things take time to happen and some technologies innovation are not launched in the regional market until that the competitor lauch the same
Advice to Senior Management
It's ponderous to take the right decision about the competitor market share growth.
Pros
Decent insurance if a full time employee, plus quarterly bonus and 401K. Easy to get time off, and 2 weeks paid vacation if a full time emp, 1 week paid vacation if part time. Also had option to purchase an additional week of vacation per year. Lots of potlucks fund raising activities.
Cons
You never know when your going to get laid off. No one in upper management lets on that anything is wrong until it actually happens, such as lay offs and closures. Most team supervisors have little if any college education, and are out of touch with policies and procedures when it comes to assisting Whirlpool customers that call in for assistance with their appliances. When you don't use it you lose it, so when an employee goes from taking customer calls to supervising a team, they rarely have to deal with consumers or use the compter system we use to do our job. So, when you ask one of the supervisors for assistance, they usually can't help since they haven't been on the phone with customers for years. I personally think that my supervisor should know everything I know and more.
Advice to Senior Management
Team leads should be required to take a certain amount of phone calls per week so they can remain informed and up to date with policies and procedures when it comes to the computer systems we use, and assisting customers. Supervisors should be equipped to help us help the customer when need be.
Pros
good hr practices - on paper
Cons
Only extra late stay is improtant , not fair environment
Advice to Senior Management
We are not aggressive in our stategies , no work life balance for employees , things are prdictable
