Pros
Training tools
Salaries and benefits
Global presence
Cons
Short term focus
Lack of good communication
Lack of human focus
Pros
Travel Opportunities, Discounts on Product, Co-workers, Job Experience
The prospective employee holds a lot of negotiation power, get as much as you can guaranteed, once you're in, its much harder unless your valued and threaten to quit.
Cons
The "pitch" on the bonus structure is a joke, outside looking in you think you have an opportunity to make 4x your target bonus, its a complete fabrication that is not even close to practice.
Calibration for your rating are the biggest joke, the best way to excel is to be "liked" your work does not matter. If you are liked you will excel, if you do good work you will maintain your employment. If you have neither you will be push out quickly in a community which you will need to move.
Recent redesign of the company have left several unemployed, the rest of us have jobs but plenty are looking elsewhere.
Advice to Senior Management
Build an $80m+ HQ centered in a ghetto...

Cons
Much time wasted on PMP reviews, lot of productivity lost here for both employees and management.
Too lengthy hiring/interview process, can be 3 to 5 hours with 6 people average. Lot of productivity lost here as well.
Poor communication. Many meetings, but communication is lacking.
Management very political in every aspect.
Too many poor performing regulars, management does not personally supervise very well.
Decision procrastination. Management has very hard time making prompt, sound decisions in just about everything
Many instances of contractors treated as people who do the work that the poor performing regulars don't want to do.
Management is unaware of their employees true skills or what they are really accomplishing. They do not fully utilize employee skills to the best interests of the company.
Many people are deliberately held back from advancement and need to have management approval to apply for positions within the company.
Advice to Senior Management
Better communication needed.
Go back to traditional reviews and hiring practices. It will save much money, resources and time.
Treat contractors as equals like other companies do and hire them fairly and promptly using a fair system.
Pros
Great people with wonderful great experiences (ex-Consulting, great professionals)
Cons
Lots of organizational and people churning roles every 6 to 12 months
Advice to Senior Management
Reduce organizational churn
Pros
Whirlpool Corporation is a global leader in the appliance manufacturing industry and recently celebrated its 100 year anniversary on November 11, 2011. This longstanding history has given our company the experience to compete within a competitive landscape that is constantly evolving. Our company employs over 20,000 American workers and I am proud to be one of them.
While working as a Sales Development Representative, you are required to drive incremental sales growth for a strong consumer brand. These brands include Whirlpool, Jenn-Air, KitchenAid, Maytag, and Amana. I currently manage a territory with accounts like Sears, Lowe’s, Home Depot, and Best Buy. As a Sales Development Representative, you will need to work successfully on teams within a collaborative environment. This position also requires both verbal and written communication skills on a daily basis. You will continue to develop these skills by speaking 2-3 times per month in front of audiences of 50 or more. These skills combined with a desire to win will allow you to successfully execute Whirlpool’s sales strategy.
Cons
This position requires relocation. You must be open to moving anywhere within the USA and your territory will depend on what area is open at the time. If you are fine with moving, this is the job for you. Great people, great product, and great management.
Advice to Senior Management
Management does a great job of responding to direct reports and their feedback. As an American based company, we need to find ways to keep cost competitive with our foreign competition.
Pros
The people at Whirlpool are fantastic. The company is very invested in the community and goes the extra mile to be a good corporate citizen.
Cons
Headquarters is in a very small town. It's a good place to start your career or raise a family but being mid to late 20's and single in this town can be difficult. There can be some elements of favoritism to certain employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Whirlpool internally prides itself on innovation but often builds its strategies around concepts that simply mimic their competitors. Morale was poor towards the end of the year and many good employees were leaving the company. 2012 is a big year in deciding what direction the company heads for the next 100 years.
Pros
- Communications from senior leadership.
- Recognition for a job well done.
- Ability to move within the company.
Cons
- They don't do well with career pathing.
- Function of HR is unclear.
- Takes a long time to increase pay to national avg levels.
Pros
Work/Life balance
Communication at all levels
Cons
No recognition unless one consistently brags about own self.
Pros
Nice local community. Good schools.
Cons
If you have a spouse, you may wish to make sure she/he finds a job in the area before accepting a position. There are few other companies in the area.
