I have been working at Whirlpool full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There are lots of opportunities to work in different areas of the company. With multiple products, your experiences with various systems can be wide ranging.

    Cons

Unless you are part of the rotational, straight out of college, program, it seems difficult to move up. Strong focus on taking "top talent" with little to no experience and promoting them quickly through the business. Experienced engineers hiring into the company will stall out quickly prior to reaching middle management.

    Advice to Management

Understand you have talent at many levels of the company with various years of experience. Find a direction, and stick with it... the lack of long term goals is very depressing.

    Pros

Peers and opportunities if you are willing to move

    Cons

Culture reflects profit margin, company thrives and reduces goal so low you can't win

  5. Decent pay but advancement is not based on ability, education, or performance. Mostly political, how well you suck up.

I have been working at Whirlpool full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Plenty of different paths you might take, if you get a chance

    Cons

Poor workers who play the game can advance while top performers struggle.

    Advice to Management

Learn to be real leaders, listen to the employees, and stop believing your own press, you're not all that!

    Pros

For the area and the job, the pay and benefits were competitive. The people are great.

    Cons

Job was not challenging. Spent more time concerning politics than actual work.

    Advice to Management

I think Whirlpool is a great picture of typical large corporation direction. Good people and good pay. But only good. Not great. Not bad. Everything is just "good." If politicing is your thing, its a great place, but if you actually want to be great and creative, not the place. Its a place engineers go to die.

I have been working at Whirlpool full-time

    Pros

Small town. Good place to have a family. Work is flexible and you are free to manage your time.

    Cons

Lack of process and high number of managers.

    Advice to Management

Lean process may help to improve the performance.

    Pros

Company is very supportive of the LGBT community and employees, right up to the CEO. Global and North American headquarters are located in a beautiful place to live, right on the shores of Lake Michigan.

    Cons

Pay is low, as the company targets paying just below the mid-point of the market. CEO gets huge bonuses, even when employees have bonuses slashed. In the past 7 years, employees have received their target bonus only 3 times. Senior Management, including the CEO, do not see the Law Department as creating value.

I worked at Whirlpool full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Opportunities to move around within company to different functions. Training and development. Values and community involvement and support.

    Cons

Forced ranking system (rank and yank). Fear of losing job every year. Some good managers and some awful ones. Too much focus on short term quarterly number and not enough long term.

    Advice to Management

Promote people leaders/managers who can actually lead and manage not just a subject mattter experts. Get rid of ranking system pitting coworkers against each other will always hold this company back from full potential. Innovation needs to imrpove and speed up.

I have been working at Whirlpool full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Whirlpool offers flexible hours, summer hours in Michigan, and career opportunities for professionals looking for a variety of work experiences in one company. Can build a great resume especially if you are senior manager and below.

    Cons

Mass exodus of female leaders in the past year - really question what management is doing to retain female and diverse leaders. Hiring female/diverse individuals is not the problem but retaining is a huge problem. If you are identified as a person with potential and your white and male you will get all types of coaching, mentoring, and support to grow your career. If you are not, this is a great resume building company then you move on to get your career going because it isn't going to happen with this primarily 50+ year old white male led company.

    Advice to Management

Wake up. Don't wait for a class action discrimination lawsuit before you take action. Just because you cannot relate to a person (who is female, in 40-50's, and didn't have a career path like you) doesn't make your female/diverse talent irrelevant. They are just not that into you and will leave and not sue, if you're lucky.

    Pros

Decent processes Employee friendly policies Small town, good to raise kids

    Cons

Homogeneous culture. Diversity is there in workforce but diversity of ideas/thoughts/working style is still not welcome.
