    Pros

Good Benefits. Some brands are terrific. Some excellent people there as well.

    Cons

If you are in the "crony circle" or in HR, you can trade favors easily...Certain folks in HR give each other special privileges, stocks, promotion etc...
All their talk about "Straight talk", Values...is ONLY lip service. Corporate culture sucks. They worry more about who to please than they worry about the business itself. Get on the wrong side, offer criticism your career is finished there. They will label you and stack you for getting out of the door.
YOU DON't have a career there if you are not a part of the inner white boys club. They really treat older people, women and other races poorly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire your VP's( the ones that have been there over 10 years), they are trying to save their the jobs by holding back good people. They practice implicit discrimination and have become very good at suck UP.

I worked at Whirlpool full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The company is very large so many different departments, focusing on different aspects, involved with all parts of the globe.

    Cons

Whirlpool is a company that if you don't fit they don't make much accommodations. They are a midwest company and very old boys club. I found there yearly performance review process to be too rigid and if you excelled at things beyond your job scope they were not valued well. Finally i did not find it a very open place for new ideas or a place where leadership was willing to listen to employees. They talk a lot about best practices, process improvement, engagement, and other buzzwords but it feels like all it was is talk.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to look at look at cross training your people, engineers are just engineers, sales only do sales, your people do not know how to talk to each other nor the roadblocks in each other day to day jobs. You have siloed your self and are too focused on just following processes instead of following core goals. Also you are too focused on rolling out models every year, consumers don't watch appliances like cars. Wait till you have a well tested good feature improvement on a machine and then roll that out. It will improve your production at the factory and help reduce warehousing issues.

Promising at first but lack luster in the end- and very poor pay for the work expected.

Raising a family and you have a 2 family income - good location for families.

    Cons

Poor leadership, badly executed upgrades and system changes, low pay for non-executives.

    Pros

Management is very friendly an really wants to see employees do well. Company also invests a lot of time into the Benton Harbor, MI.

    Cons

Lots of work expected of those in field positions. Somedays you may work 12 days straight with extra compensation for this. Increased requirements are constantly being added to our work load.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Really listen to the suggestions and concerns of those in field.

    Pros

Great company rich with top talent. Whirlpool has every opportunity to excel and grow and even dominate the industry. It is flush with top talent and those willing to put forth the right efforts to drive the company towards their every goal. You'll find the greatest talent still within the company, while it continues to farm out through attrition the rest of their talent to their competitors and ancillary industries.

    Cons

Bureaucracy is weighing down all the potential. The company feels rotten within itself with cronyism and nepotism awarding positions to people unproven and people who have never stayed within position long enough to actually have delivered against an objective, and yet they thrive with their naive opinions. Too slow to act

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up to the talent loss, clarify the steps and assessment for individual growth. In this industry, you'll need people willing to take risk and management not so eager to hand out punishment.

I have been working at Whirlpool full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It is located in a small town so if you wan't to live in a rural location it is a great option. They really do value development and loyalty so there are opportunities available to develop and in certain cases switch functions.

    Cons

Can be somewhat cliquey. If you enter through a rotational program you will have an easier path to growth than as a direct hire. backfilling and promotions are done more on a "who do you know?" basis than by utilizing HR to actively determine who is the best fit. Employees that work in functions outside of Sales, Mktg and Engineering will find it harder to advance. Support functions like finance, supply chain, IT, procurement, etc are much flatter.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

create a more robust HR department that can better identify and promote talent.

I worked at Whirlpool full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits and paid vacations. Most of the higher management were very good to work with and for; the people were great as well. The pay was good.

    Cons

A lot of responsibilities for some and non for others. The plant was very hot.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Always be honest and kind to your employees, for they are the reason you have your job. Allow them to express their thoughts on issues that may help the company grow.
