Great if you have open availability...

    Line Cook (Former Employee)
    Surrey, BC (Canada)

ProsGreat training, slightly above minimum wage pay, great team, good managers, good tip pool,

ConsLarge portions of kitchen responsibilities fall to the entry level employee, slow to train into new position, if you can only work part time prepare to be stuck in the same position for a while, environment can be stressful, be prepared not to take all comment personally.

Advice to Senior ManagementTraining for positions should be based on seniority.

This was my first job and I couldn't have asked for anything better.

    Hostess, Expediter (Current Employee)
    Vancouver, BC (Canada)

    ProsFriendly coworkers and customers
    Always kept busy
    GREAT pay!
    Fun

I'd be getting paid about 20 dollars an hour when I expedited because of the tips I'd get from servers. This job is also great for building confidence. I became a lot more outgoing and stopped caring about making a fool of myself in front of people. (Sometimes i question if this is a bad thing :) )

ConsToo many menus to juggle before seating
Can be stressful (White Spot doesn't have the best reputation for quick service)
For myself, I'd prefer to work with younger people. Don't get me wrong I loved the customers at White Spot but sometimes I'd crave for a change of pace with less parties of families.
Servers have told me of mediocre tips.

Advice to Senior Managementgive your workers what they want, and they will give you what you want.

Need to value their valuable employees, discipline those who clearly don't care

    Line Cook (Former Employee)
    Langley, BC (Canada)

ProsFlexible schedule, interesting coworkers, good training. They were really good to me while I was going to university, and tried to help me as much as possible

ConsCoworkers are still employed when they should have been fired ages ago. At this location anyway, those who didn't care, who showed up late, never got disciplined or got disciplined in a way that hurt their coworkers.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire more part time workers and cut the fat from time to time

    Advancement Opportunities

    Assistant General Manager (Current Employee)
    Campbell River, BC (Canada)

ProsWhite Spot gives the ability to work up from an entry position to management when determination and skill is demonstrated. They also have a very extensive management training program to ensure you are trained effectively.

ConsIn the past they opened too many stores too fast and needed more Management positions filled before they had the up and coming staff trained which lead to many people being fired for not having the effective knowledge needed for the position. I was lucky enough not to follow into the management requests too soon but saw many get fired for jumping too soon.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhen promoting staff ensure training is finished before promoting into the management positions. The high change over not only costs in training dollars, staff moral, but in customer service. Patience is a virtue.
