Better in bygone years. Acquisition of a dozen small companies in different sectors to form one super-sized didn't work

Senior Consultant (Former Employee)
Nottingham, England (UK)

I worked at White Young Green full-time for more than 8 years

ProsHuge opportunities for international travel, especially if willing to relocate on a project by project basis (6month - 2 years cycle, but ad-hoc and little say in where). Independence to work alone, good for self-starters.

ConsTries but fails to be a professional services company to too many sectors. Old school management in HQ, bums on seats philosophy . Appalling HR, minimal appraisals (2 in 10 years), no CPD. Compensation below average. Huge number of redundancies 2010-2011. Debt issues. Check out share price WYG PLC (WYG.L)

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Enjoyed my Development - got out just in time

Engineering Geologist (Former Employee)
Nottingham, England (UK)

I worked at White Young Green

ProsI joined a company that has just been bought out but WYG and the 'old' ethos remained. i worked under an excellent direct manager and my career certainly advance greatly during my 4 years there. when a bigger and better opportunity came along i took ti and moved overseas, since the time i have left the company has been shaken to the core by the global financial problems and is a shadow of its former self

Consthe reputation of certain offices and even certain managers severly affected the comnpnies reputation and i was often left trying to explain how my office was different from this. no question that some offices and sectors are far stronger than others

Advice to Senior Managementthe top senior management (RD and above) are very detached from the workforce, particularly at a time when they should have been 'in the trenches' establishing the best way out of the mire they were in

Fiddled while Rome burned!

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at White Young Green

ProsInteresting and challenging assignments - although management promising clients that a twenty page report can be polished off in half a day was a common occurence.

ConsGlobal recession approaching so one would expect the board and the senior exec to be implementing strategies to combat the downturn. Instead they spent hundreds of man-hours and millions of pounds designing a new corporate logo.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe people you abandoned when the company ran into problems ARE actually people - not just numbers on a spreadsheet.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
