I have been working at WhitePages.com full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – The atmosphere is really relaxed, lively and everyone just gets along. We're not a political company, we're not hierarchical, and all the C-level executives sit in desks right next to everyone else. Even though we've been very profitable for many years, we still operate with a startup mentality, which means things get done without a ton of bureaucratic bs and everyone works really, really hard. The benefits don't get much better either.
Cons – Everyone will think you work for the phone book, but that's slowly changing as the brand gets more recognition.
Advice to Senior Management – Can our next holiday party be in Maui?

Pros – Profitable. Small in numbers. Dynamic. Potential. With these things come hard work and rewards. Whitepages is figuring out its focus and is doing great things in the data space. For me, this beats the grind at the other local megacompanies hands down.
Cons – If you're into political games, slacking and unable to manage yourself and work with others to achieve great results, there are other places you should look.

Pros – 40 engineers addressing 40 million users means you can have huge impact as a development contributor. Big data, big audience, ambitious plans, striving for excellence, fostering innovation.
Cons – Over 12 years in business with several paradigm shifting changes in direction and development philosophy means there's layers and layers of legacy systems spanning divergent levels of technological maturity spun together with gum and string. Working out of the quagmire, but it can be a burden.

I have been working at WhitePages.com full-time for less than a year
Pros – Company treats their employees great. Lots of perks. Good benefits, tech gear, happy hours, lunches, training/education. I keep waiting for the honeymoon period to end! We are able to work autonomously and get things done. Yes, there is interaction with the executive team but I consider it a plus that they show an active interest in what is going on. Cool technology company and leader the space.
Cons – If you are someone that is not willing to wear multiple hats and do some of the tactical work, this is not the place for you. Be prepared to work all aspects of your job. Top to bottom.
Advice to Senior Management – Continue to stay involved and active. It shows that you are interested and care about what happens to this company and the people.

I have been working at WhitePages.com full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – We have a great environment with awesome tech tools (I will never be able to work anywhere again without my dual 24" monitors) and you're not tied to your desk - you can work in the casual areas in a nice big comfy beanbag chair if you want. The are always opportunities to learn new things and increase your skills. For someone who is very focused on title vs. responsibility and what you do, it's probably not the right place to be, but for opportunity it's great. I've had more opportunity here and learned more here than I have at all my other jobs combined. We're profitable and don't require outside funding to explore other products, ideas or make payroll! (knowing you're going to get paid when you expect to, is awesome!) Typically the people I've seen that are unhappy here are not very motivated and lack personal accountability so they tend to flounder in this type of environment. Our all company kick off meeting is in Whistler in January for four days...what's not to like!
Cons – It takes a long time to hire engineering staff here, but mostly because our hiring bar is so high, but that can be frustrating. We don't always have enough hours in the day to do everything we want to, so that can can also be a little frustrating, but we eventually get it done.
Advice to Senior Management – Continue to trust that the people you hired in for their expertise will get the job done right and we'll continue to be successful!

I worked at WhitePages.com
Pros – I loved the open culture that the CEO had built and that everyone was accountable for their work. This isn't the kind of place where all the VPs get to slack off and everyone else does the work.
Cons – I would encourage the company to continue to find balance between work and personal life. It's something that is already done well but can always be improved.

I have been working at WhitePages.com
Pros – Lots of free lunches
Decent Benefits
Some very hard working fun engineers
Flexible time scheduling
The best things about whitepages are the things that have the least to do with being a software engineer.
Cons – management driven projects
poor management
aged ( old ) website infrastructure
EXTREMELY difficult release process
test suite that is non-deterministic and flaky at best
Overall the experience of working at whitepages is on of attrition or denial. Any moves to truly shift from old school management driven work to forward thinking innovation are snuffed by an exceedingly long cycle for making such cultural changes.
The rails stack is aging and unbearable to work with.
Most of the MVP developer / engineers have left the company to start / work at start ups.

I have been working at WhitePages.com
Pros – The casual attire environment is appreciated. The benefits are great especially for a smaller size company. Getting to participate and being encouraged to do so with things like United Day of Caring are nice.
Cons – Compensation is lacking. When salary.com shows my title median pay at 20% more than what i make it's very disappointing. Seeing folks that have devoted time and energy to the company for a long time get no respect.
Advice to Senior Management – Stop treating employees like baseball cards. Start making your employees happy and they may stick around for more than a year.

We have an executive team that allows us a lot of freedom in how we get our jobs done.
Cons – It would be nice to have a 401k match contribution
