I have been working at Whiting Petroleum full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Growth opportunities, work/life balance, great benefits and pay. Great bonuses and raises. Management cares about their employees. Tuition reimbursement.

    Cons

Other companies in the industry have dress down days or casual Fridays. Also a lot have more creative work schedules with every other Friday off. Honestly not a lot to complain about here!

I have been working at Whiting Petroleum as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

A very open, communicative, science driven oil and gas company. Better science equals better wells, hands down. The CEO has a great vision for the future of the company and all I see is more growth in the future.

    Cons

Recently changed bonus structure to align more with other petroleum companies. Basically, this means the bonus is still competitive, but less than what it was before. If you didn't know the old system, then this isn't so much of a con.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pushing innovation and keeping employees happy are great ways to make a happy employee work force. That being said, the old bonus system was innovative and motivating, being on par with all the other companies' bonuses, that makes the company just another fish in the sea.

Compensation was well above market rates

    Cons

1099 in perpetuity, no benefits or hiring on as an employee
    Very formal

    I worked at Whiting Petroleum

    Pros

I love the people that I work with and the people that I work for. Great pay and great benefits.

    Cons

Long work hours for the exploration and production staff but that is the career we chose. Same with stress and pressure.

Good in general, but is constantly running into its own growing pains as a relatively new E&P company.

I have been working at Whiting Petroleum full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefits, good opportunity for growth and learning.

    Cons

Work 5 days a week despite employees' desire to switch to 9/80 schedule like most Denver based oil companies have. Not up to par with industry-standard salaries. Organizational structure in my department is not conducive to maximizing employee output. Boy's club culture is very much in existence here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make a greater effort to get to know the people who work for you. Find out what it is they really do and whether or not they are a contributing member of the staff. A dud employee is toxic to the surrounding employees.

    Pros

None, If a company with this type of revenue can order $30,000.00 in land work and then not pay the bill there is something wrong. all the work was pre-approved, Whiting was given an estimate of work and cost prior to execution of the work.
