I worked at Whittier College part-time

    Pros

Very rewarding- the job is great for a student looking to gain insight into the world of technology and customer assistance. Very flexible hours and staff is full of nice people who have very clear and understandable directions for the employees to follow.

    Cons

If you don't like working downstairs then find another job is recommended. however, the environment is soothingly air conditioned which makes it a great place to be.

    Advice to Management

Management is fully suited to handle the needs of the employees as well as to take on the responsibilities of maintaining the network infrastructure. My main advice would be to get the student workers in the IT department into certification classes where the students could develop their resume for post college work.

I have been working at Whittier College part-time

    Pros

Make your own hours. Great working with freshman. Boosts personal school pride. Develop great relationships with freshman that carry over beyond their first semester.

    Cons

Long and tedious training. Long and tedious orientation process. Some unenthusiastic and nonchalant freshman. Sometimes freshman abuse your willingness to help.

I worked at Whittier College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The best reasons to work here include the general, friendly environment and the openness of staff if you have any questions or concerns related to the position.

    Cons

Some of the challenges of working here include the pacing, when things are slow they're very slow and when things pick up, they really pick up, you have to be flexible

    Advice to Management

Unrelated to the job position, but a note for upper management at Whittier: Actually listen to the student body's demands and interests, it reflects poorly on the rest of the academic setting when it's so clear that there's a disconnect between higher up staff and the students they're meant to be serving.

    Cons

Assignments are usually due within 5-7 days, still not much of a con.

    Pros

Very understanding employers, gave lots of time off for student activities. Lots of employee appreciation events and perks. Community work setting.

    Cons

Not enough oversight. Impersonal- I never dealt with upper management, only my immediate supervisor.
