I have been working at Wilbur Smith Associates

    Pros

Great opportunity to learn, lots of great software and opportunity to learn how to use it and apply it right away.

    Cons

Sometimes there isn't an exact task that you need to complete, that was hard for me to sometimes just float around.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure that all of the employees have tasks to complete and help them accomplish those, make sure they know what they're are supposed to be doing.

I have been working at Wilbur Smith Associates

    Pros

They pay well, the people are very nice and good to work with however there is way too much management and not enough people to actually do the work. Very, very top-heavy. Oh I guess this is more of a con than a pro. Can't really think of any more pros!

    Cons

WSA has no room for movement or advancement. They do not promote well nor do they offer any incentive to continue working here. They have a very high turnover rate. The company is very traditional.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have got to look at the people who are doing the work - stop focusing on top management. You also have a long, long way to come to being a progressive firm. Very antiquated.

Company will benefit with merger with CDM, previously very much resting on laurels

I worked at Wilbur Smith Associates

    Pros

Worldwide reputation in some areas like tolling. Some very nice, good people. For a firm its size, it felt like a big family.

    Cons

Took a long time to get rid of "dead wood." In many offices, too many chiefs and not enough Indians. Still doing things that worked well 50 years ago but maybe not now.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make the most of the merger with CDM but I hope you can keep your own identity in the process.

I have been working at Wilbur Smith Associates

    Pros

    Great People and great team
    International Reputation

    Cons

    Very Very Top Heavy
No Coordination between the offices and teams
    Little room for growth
Conservative thinking style of the management
No incentives for employees (only for management)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try being a one big office rather than a collection of small individual office. Also way too many managers who dont really work on project or get projects. The project manager is expected to win work and also do the work with no support from anyone...As said previously stop focusing on the top management...you are actually loosing people who o the work...

    Cons

The organization structure is in need of great improvement. The family-styled management limit the company growth in many ways.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Wilbur Smith Associates

    Pros

They are very slow to let people go when the work slows down. Laid back environment and not demanding. Easy to work at, very slow pace.

    Cons

No room for advancement if that is what you wnat. The word overtime is a sin. The benefits package is sketchy and no one tells you the rules unless you break them. Absolutely no out of the box thinking is allowed. If you are ready to pack it in this is the place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Move into this milenia, adopt a real work process. Have employees anonymouslly review the managment. After all this is an employee owned company the employees should have a voice other that their voting of the board.
