    A Law Enforcement Organization With Unlimited Potential

    ProsThe Will County Sheriff's Office has a number of truly dedicated and competent line officers and supervisors. There is opportunity for growth and specialization within the organization, and the geographic differences within the county allow to police in both rural and urban environments. There are also great opportunities within the correctional field for this organization as well.

    ConsOne of the biggest issues effecting the Sheriff's Office, is the amount of internal politics at play, in addition to the partisan politics always present when your leader is an elected official. In addition, budgetary and funding issues have been, and will continue to be a major obstacle in starting new initiatives, and in maintaining current staffing levels.

    Advice to Senior ManagementAlthough there are many good leaders within the Sheriff's Office, internal politics is a destructive element that strains morale, inhibits efficiency, and creates an atmosphere in which the agency strains to access its' full potential.

    ProsBenefits package is very good.

    Cons1]. Little to no respect
    2]. Safety is not a concern.
    3]. Inmates ratio to officers is going to be 92 inmates to one officer the end of this March [2009].
    4]. Being told that we are sworn citizens.
    5]. Failure to bargin in good faith.
    6]. Being honest.

    Advice to Senior Management1]. A Dale Carniage course on, " How to Win Friends and Influence People".
    2]. Take management courses.
    3]. Work with the people doing the actual work if want improvement.
    4]. Utilize your staff talent not those who are yes people.
