Great place to learn P&C insurance, but overworked

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Boston, MA

Pros-The majority of the people you work with are fantastic.
    -You can learn a ton.
-They have made a few HR & Managerial changes that may turn the tide shortly.

Cons-Annual Review/Raise does not keep up with the increases in workload.
-The people who "don't care", really, really, don't care.

Advice to Senior Management-Listen to what your people are telling you!
-Enforce your policies in a consistent manner.

    -Limited career growth
    -Very junior service staff
    -Glass ceiling
    -Lack of diversity
    -Weird politics

    Mixed bag

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Boston, MA

ProsGood coworkers, interesting work with up and coming industries (green energies and such), decent benefits and attempts by management to create a community within the company

Conscomputers and related technology is extremely out of date and often not functioning well, low salaries, workload is incredibly heavy, turnover and burnout is high

Advice to Senior ManagementThe conservative approach to getting through hard times is understandable - but if you are going to demand the volume of work you are placing on employees, it's vital you give them the tools to allow them to do their jobs.

    Okay place to work

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Boston, MA

ProsFriendly people, made some good friends. My own manager was very flexible, others aren't as good though. They try to keep staff happy.

ConsSome managers far too rigid. Senior management doesn't communicate effectively. REALLY bad time off (for vacations, maternity leave). Really low paying.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay your staff market rate.
Senior management needs to let people do their jobs - leave the experts to do what you have hired them to do and don't micro-manage.
Don't promote people just because they have been there a while, promote for talent (especially for people who will be managing others).

    Need to Hire More People

    Assistant Account Manager (Former Employee)

Pros-Good place to learn commercial insurance
    - Salary and Benefits above average
    - Great location

Cons-Need to hire more account managers. Over-work the staff they have with client books too big for one person
    - Assistants can be treated unfairly, managers tend to take stress out on them
    - Promotion salary increases low

Advice to Senior ManagementGreat place to get a start in insurance, but best bet is to take learned skills and move elsewhere for fair workload and salary
