    Pros

To my experience, it is not bad experience. This is because school allows adjunct to control everything in classroom freely. In addition, relatively higher wage compared to colleges in New York City. Finally, they also offer you to register on state pension system. This is very different to other adjuncts in New York City

    Cons

As you can expect, most of college students are not prepared well except highly comparative colleges.

    Advice to Management

    Nothing

I have been working at William Paterson University part-time

    Pros

Friendly, good education, student and teachers engagement programs, nice campus, good music and English department, good theater and very high quality concerts organized on campus, good student center

    Cons

Big disproportion of part time v.s full time faculty. Low salaries. Not enough motivation for part time teachers. Not enough administrative support for faculty, adjuncts, staff, and students.

I have been working at William Paterson University full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Excellent faculty and a very environment. Faculty are well paid compared to similar institutions.

    Cons

The University is facing some serious problems, both internal (still struggling with enrollment issues that were left unaddressed by previous administration) and external (a state government elected on demonizing state employees and cutting funding).

  7. William Paterson University Desk Assistant job is cool. You just sit and swipe resident's IDs.

    Pros

Doing homework Talk to residents Resident Directors are professional and down to earth. Every resident will recognize you and are willing to talk to you.

    Cons

Wage No raise for every year you reapply Not much of benefits aside from getting paid. Depending on the staff, they can be money hungry and too serious with the job.

    Advice to Management

Please raise the wage. I feel the DAs do a lot of work and we deserve some credit at least.

    Pros

Students are ill-equipped when they enter, but very willing to learn. Most work too many hours to study much. But seeing some succeed is very, very rewarding. Reasonable research expectations for faculty. State contract guarantees high pay for faculty (average among highest in nation - to match NJ's ridiculous cost of living.) Good resources for work. Congenial colleagues.

    Cons

Everyone lives far away, so little out of work socializing (tho with some that's a plus!) Favoritism given to some Colleges for things like travel money. Second or third rate Deans, but they mostly leave individual faculty alone. The local Union leader is a joke. Full of sound and fury . . .

    Advice to Management

Stop micromanaging. This starts at the top with the President. Listen to regular faculty.

  9. Great state benefits but abuse by bosses occurs in some departments and students just want easy A grades.

I worked at William Paterson University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Healthcare and retirement benefits are really good.

    Cons

Abuse of nontenured faculty is frequent by bosses in many departments. Many students are extremely poor academically and rude to faculty.

    Advice to Management

You hired a non academic as president who only cares only about running a business. Treat your faculty with respect and the university will thrive. If you continue to only promote faculty who give out good grades for substandard student work the university will have a reputation that will bring down the few strong students that graduate.

  10. Great place to work but plagued by red tape and squabbles between administration and faculty.

I worked at William Paterson University full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Terrific location in the nicest part of North Jersey, really great faculty and interpersonal dynamics.

    Cons

The drive to cut spending on NJ universities has led to a faculty/administration standoff which has taken a toll.

  11. Great part-time experience

    Pros

Paid to learn and operate financial software to educate others

    Cons

A lot of call-outs, which isn't a con for those who wanted to work
