  1. Solid

    Pros

Great pay; solid firm reputation takes you a long way. The firm is kind and offers many perks to junior and senior attorneys

    Cons

Faceless culture. Mostly talked on the phone with people and rarely met with senior attorneys

    Advice to Management

Try to get people meeting face to face. It is much easier to form bonds and work collaboratively this way.

    Pros

Everyone is great to work for and with. The work is interesting. The community is tight and helpful. Very egalitarian environment.

    Cons

Sometimes long hours, but that is what you sign up for at a law firm. And Midtown can be a drag if you like to stay below 14th street.

I have been working at Willkie Farr full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Job security, it takes a lot to get fired, you get to do a lot if you want to tackle onto your resume. Pay is pretty decent in this industry. Benefits are ok and flexsible schedule for people with kids or like to work different hours.

    Cons

Glass ceiling is very high, no promotions, you have to leave and come back for a higher position. Job security also leads to a lot of laziness in the support personnel.

    Advice to Management

Lack of transparency, cost control very tight in places that aren't costly but expensive things aren't being audited better. Company spends a lot of money in places that don't return any real value and then nickle dime quality of life costs. Absolutely very little internal advancement opportunity. You have to be a certain sex and ethnicity to even think about getting promotions. Which leads to the lack of equal job opportunity.

    Pros

Willkie Farr provides a highly professional environment, with a top notch staff, and great clients. The attorneys are among the best and brightest.

    Cons

Communications from management can be rather limited. This attitude is particularly pervasive in the corporate group, which is very male-dominated and operates with a "good old boys" tenor. For example, in times when corporate work was scarce, senior male associates and partners often circumvented the official assignment process to give the best projects to young male associates. It is not a place to succeed as a woman in corporate law.

    Advice to Management

I would advise management to dismantle the corporate group and recreate the culture in a way that is amenable to the advancement of women. I am surprised there has not been a class action against them to date.
