I have been working at Wincanton

    Pros

    Well fitting employees can progress.

    Cons

Narcissistic. If you face don't fit you will remain at the bottom, regardless of your capabilities. Managment have been known to base thier decisions adhoc, or on emotion. Childish, unorganised, No seperation of management & friendship from top site management. No structure, cloke and dagger evniroment, Unprofessional. Some instances of bulling. (Most go unreported because of a friendship between GM and Production manager) Very little communication - unless your in with the right people erelevent of department.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Seperate you personal lifes from your bussiness lifes.

I have been working at Wincanton full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Not much I'm afraid. Money is ok for area. If you socialise with managers outside work you will be looked after.

    Cons

Too many conflict of interests. Head office HR don't care so there is nobody to talk to. If you are friends with the senior management then you will be looked after. No training opportunities for hard working personnel.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They don't listen to a word you say anyway.

I have been working at Wincanton full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

We have great opportunities here, don't you think? You can meet some great people, always willing to help out. The management team are great help you out in any way. You don't need to worry about not being trained, they teach you everything you need to know. They also take safety really seriously which is excellent and not all places do. I enjoy working here, don't you?

    Cons

sometimes stock can arrive late which means that we have to wait for the stock to complete orders, which then in turns puts us behind, (but we 9 times out of 10 catch up) some communication issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

communication could be widely improved throughout the work place.

Seem to be willing to help emploees

    Cons

Sometimes not willing to recieve advice from experience

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There seems to be alot of bad vibes about wincanton and to be honest i dont know why! Ive been in the trasport game for over 25 yrs and been through a brave lot of companies until i started in wincanton n.ireland and i find it to be a good company in the recent climate they seem in our site anyway to be trying to keep jobs and work at steading the downslope of job losses so there in my eyes alot worse places to work with unsatisfactory conditions and less pay!! Yes im happy at wincanton !!

I worked at Wincanton full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

I started as a order picker in the warehouse , by the time I left I was planning and managing my team. I feel that I was given the right training and given the opportunities to progress.

    Cons

As much as I feel that I was progressed . I also had to push hard for it and unfortunately there was very little budget for training.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide more money to train and promote the right people. I had to push extremely hard to get the training I wanted and feel that more training could of helped myself and the company further. That being said , I would be happy to work for Wincanton again given the opportunity. The only reason for leaving was that we were tube's to the Co operative when they built a new depot in Avonmouth.

I have been working at Wincanton full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good wage but think it's more down to our customer, I've a job and there's plenty of people out there without one.

    Cons

Feel where Being left out of the whole wincanton thing, not seen many senior management down our way in a long time, was given wincanton ppe once over three years ago.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't forget your small teams e.g. Petroleum based!

    I worked at Wincanton

    Pros

Remember the time when we was loading the trailers on bays 1-11a and we always ended up getting the Isle of Man loads on bay 10 & 11 wasn't they just great cos we knew we could get them done by 21:30 and cleaned up by 21:45, fifteen mins chill time then out the door by 22:00 !!!!!!

    Cons

Getting all of the Provisions meat and produce on time so that you are able to finish your loads on time so that they can be ready for despatch at the correct gate times!!!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your Empoyees with respect as they would do you!!

Former Employee - Operations Manager in Harlow, England (UK)

I worked at Wincanton full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good development programmes and gives you a real understanding of legal compliance and sticking to process.

    Cons

Jobs not always advertised and kept in house or within "old pals club". Too much emphasis on the customers needs and values, lost sight of Wincantons. Also difficult to manage Pullmans due to relationship.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Forget the one fleet offering and let managers deal with Pullmans as if they were a contractor!
