    Better Work-Life Balance Than Most

I have been working at Windham Brannon full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Management has historically cared about the employees, and there is better work life balance than at most public accounting firms. Progression is relatively easy at the lower levels. The office is new and nice to work in. Management has gotten better recently about adding in some fun extras like outings, parties, etc. Benefits are good, generous vacation policy. Employees are generally smart, hard working and all around good to work with.

    Cons

Don't kid yourself, this is still public accounting, and there are long hours particularly before deadlines. Compensation is low relative to other firms in the marketplace. Superstars can rise quickly but are often overwhelmed with a never ending stream of work. As employees rise to higher levels, they are reluctant to make promotions. Recently it seems like partners are not working together; instead, most decisions are made by an executive committee.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management seems to have lost touch with core values, instead focusing on growth at all costs. Consider stepping back and instead focusing on your people, paying them well and providing them with real growth opportunities. In a client service business, keeping your employees happy translates to keeping your clients happy. Work as a team of partners to make informed decisions instead of knee-jerk, politically biased ones.

I have been working at Windham Brannon

    Pros

PTO and vacations, somewhat flexible with work hours

    Cons

don't do much to keep their good employees, overall morale among staff is bad, poor leadership and management, HR has no clue what goes on in the company, not good about promoting within, they take care of their favorites but don't show same to all staff

I have been working at Windham Brannon full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Management team is down to earth and very relateable. Tone at the top is amazing. Great clients to work for. Work is challenging and rewarding. Constantly learning something new. Co-workers are excellent.

    Cons

Work during the summer can get repetitive and boring. Evaluations are not always accurate or indicative of your perfomance, rather personal opinions are more prevalent.

  5. Beware of the management group (partners and shareholders)

I have been working at Windham Brannon

    Pros

Very professional, pleasant surroundings and a fantastic staff with great attitude. Dinner provided several days a week during busy season. Convenient location. Quality of work produced is excellent. The benefits, pay, and culture were great. Other staff level employees were always willing to help, and "mentor" was there to assist in your growth.
Exciting about the recent merger and an excellent opportunity to grow.

    Cons

The management group plays to favorites. Promotions are not based on performance reviews.
    Many staff complains about "favoritism"

Communications skills of the management group is severely lacking and often disrespectful.
Female partners are worse than the male partners.
Definitely not a "lead by example" attitude carried by the management group.
Although an open door policy is touted, frequently the first statement from management is that they are limited on time for questions/discussions as some partners are nonresponsive to emails and VMs until it's the last minute and/or time sensitive - poor management showing by the management group.

Some partners are stubborn to changes.
Performance reviews need to be improved.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

How do expect staff to follow when you can’t even lead by example.
Many staff could benefit from your willingness to change.
You have an excellent staff working for you. Don’t lose them due to your stubbornness to change for the better.

Communication between partners and staff needs a major overhaul.

Promotions should be based upon overall skill set, and not personality.

I have been working at Windham Brannon

    Pros

We are given autonomy. The firm allows us to manage ourselves and provides us the tools to succeed. This is really a great place to work.

    Cons

If you are motivated and understand that during certain times of the year 55-60 hours a week is normal, then there is nothing bad about the job. During the busy season everyone works a lot from the staff to the partners.
