Pros
good company came a long way
Cons
to much of the old boys club this company has many of workers that do move up because of not being a winn-dixe insider
Advice to Senior Management
peter told all store manager they would get a p of pie if we help the company out of the the whole they were in when peter came but that never happen peter got is money what happen to are p of pie
Pros
Benefits, cashiers and baggers and all associates not in management are usually friendly
Cons
no support from upper management
HR department has no consistency when disciplining associates
HR department plays favorites of who to terminate and not to terminate
No consistency in enforcing policies
allows associates to work in hostile work environments and then terminates the associates who report it
Specialists are not needed, too many chiefs and not enough indians
think twice before you work there
Advice to Senior Management
get rid of your HR department and let the store director and district manager handle all HR issues. Give the store directors more authority to run their store and discipline the associates who work for them.
Pros
pays the bills, close to home. Some of my co-workers are awesome. Pay is ok. Most customers are like family.
Cons
Management expects the dept heads to build their business and yet they do not allow enough hours to consistently keep the departments running at top notch. Allocations....cases of the same stuff on hand that does not sell and hold you responsible for selling it. Lack of clear communication/expectations.
Advice to Senior Management
More hrs needed to run depts/store for top quality service to our customers. Work with your employees...promote or pay increases to those who are deserving. Train/teach each employee how to perform their job efficiently and effectively. Performance reviews to tweak things for better guest experience. Team members will take pride in their department if they know how to do their job and have been shown how to do it in the time alloted.
Pros
It's a friendly work environment where you can receive basic training for the department you are in. Coworkers are given holiday pay. The hourly rate is decent. There is some advancement opportunity for those that are qualified.
Cons
Most downsides are situational. Upper management at times shows very little respect for department managers and employees alike. Instead of following set company policies every customer is given what they wish without question. For example, a cake order was placed, paid for, picked up and eaten. A couple with no receipt, and no half-eaten cake, entered the store asking for a full refund. They were not even the same people who came to order the cake in the first place but because they said so, they were given a $40 refund. We are giving away money to thieves!!!
Another issue is that there is little to no communication between the office management and department managers. A fellow employee gave a month notice before transferring to another store and the manager of the department was never told until the employee's last day. This left a heavy traffic department with only two employees to split opening and closing a department for close to two months with no assistance and only 2 days off per month. All applicants were dismissed for one reason or another even though they qualified for the job. I have also been made to understand that this situation occurs every year at the same time during the holiday season.
Advice to Senior Management
Have equal respect for your employees. Understand that we are only human and can only do so much before we can't do it anymore. We are given the tools to lead an amazing and successful company, they just need to be put to use.
Pros
There is excellent opportunity to move up in the business. Good employees are treated well with adequate pay raises, and consistent schedules. Coworkers are fun to be around, very enjoyable job
Cons
The weekly hours are very inconsistent. Some customers are very rude, especially in certain stores. Small things get blamed on innocent people
Advice to Senior Management
Keep courtesy winn Dixie cards available at each register to minimize customers waiting
Pros
Good benefits, dental, vision, 401k, etc. Store level employees always easy to work with. Most new hires get paid more than minimum wage. Holiday pay for major holidays.
Cons
** It's always about the bottom line; how much money can they make, never about the people who work there. You're basically a statistic on a computer screen to them and when I say "them" I mean corporate/upper management, not the store management on the sales floor. It is way too common to be pointed out only the bad things in your performance. They cut hours where it can't be cut, but still expect the job of three people to be done by one. And overtime is strictly forbidden.
** Quarterly bonuses are not eligible to all deparment managers, specifically "Scanning" & "Dairy" managers.
** You may have to work on Thanksgiving and/or Christmas day.
** Micromanagement is out of hand.
Advice to Senior Management
If saving money is the number one prioriority then I recommend eliminating some of these department specialist positions that are in charge of entire districts . There's no need for these management positions. They offer little to no information that your store director or district manager already gives. Use that saved money to give stores that desperately need more hours to get jobs done.
Pros
Co-workers really nice, friendly, moderately professional.
Cons
Nepotism is King. Low pay scale.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep a handle on middle management. Absolute power and all that.
Pros
It's not the busiest place to work, that is if you're lazy. There's also a 5% discount on any store item.
Cons
It's so slow while working there, since all the customers go to publix.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn how to deal with employees.
Pros
The beautiful changes made to the transition stores is remarkable.
Cons
It seems to be an issue with numerous employees to get correct paychecks. Always issues with being paid the wages offered at hiring or monies owed during the first few weeks after being hired.
Pros
Employees are friendly and professional
Cons
Minimum wages, insane work loads, gossiping-&-laziness through all management levels, really political, and low level of leadership and management skills.
If you are able to work like a slave, kiss some derrieres , and don't care for recognition, then you can work for a few months; or until a new manager comes in.
Advice to Senior Management
Train your associates properly, not just send them wondering around. Don't let personal interests and/or values affect your associates, also you can't get on associates' necks just because you don't like them. Too much wanna be boss lead to turmoil.
