The managers seem to care but they refuse to allow you to get overtime, while at the same time not hiring enough people.

    Pros

Managers treat to good and are kind of your buddy. The pay is better than most places in my department but it requires more skill than most places.

    Cons

No overtime at all. They still get mad if the job isn't done but there isn't enough people to do the job without giving overtime.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You are doing good but give some overtime and quit worrying about the overtime coming out of your bonus checks. We have bills and family's too.

    I worked at Winn-Dixie

    Pros

Management allowed employees to improvise in order to achieve quality patient care. I was always able to establish great patient relationships.

    Cons

Parent company cost cutting measures and other company policies (e.g., product acquisition) often came at the cost of customers and employees. Corporations 401k plan did not seem to match up to competitors programs.
Corporate has little care or concern for employees that it lays off.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Strategies how employees could have benefited sales initiatives to stimulate sales. Ask the employees what they felt they need to drive sales and satisfy their customers. Don't be penny wise but pound foolish. If you decide to close a store try to find jobs for the many fantastic employees that helped you get where you are.

I have been working at Winn-Dixie part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Extremely flexible with hours. If you are a student or a mother this is probably a good choice for you. You get to meet lots of new people and you can learn responsibility here.

    Cons

Management is always changing. When you move to a higher position than a cashier if you ever need a day off because you are severely sick they will make you feel bad. They give you rules and yell at you if you follow them but yell at you if you don't. There are no bonuses or holiday pay or time and a half for working holidays.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you are going to enforce policies then enforce them don't just do anything so that the customers are happy. It makes not only you but the face of your company look bad as well. Customer service is one thing but there should be a certain line you draw.

I have been working at Winn-Dixie part-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good entry level experience if you don't mind 15-20 hour work weeks.

    Cons

Lack of hours. No communication on a store to corporate level. People in corporate seem to have no clue what is going on in most of the stores. The shipping warehouse (C & S) gets away with WAY to much sneaky and underhanded stuff. No full time positions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Get a clue.

    Awesome co-workers.
Steady job with guaranteed hours for a part time position.
A company that you can easily move up in.

    Cons

    Poor upper management.
So much expected out of part time employees that aren't paid well enough
    Pay is awful, no raises

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appreciate your employees and give them the resources they need to do their jobs.

    I worked at Winn-Dixie

    Pros

I think having flexible hours is beneficial to anyone having other commitments (whether school, a second job, etc...) I often found the people I worked with to be fun, and they made the work more enjoyable. Getting time off was relatively easy except during holidays where the demand is high.

    Cons

There were often people who did not show up for work and your shifts would be unexpectedly extended. Being on your feet for hours at a time is difficult on your feet and back. Holiday bonus pay is not offered at first.

I worked at Winn-Dixie full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The people in my department were fun and I learned a lot of valuable skills that have helped me elsewhere since. There is a lot of opportunity for advancement for someone willing to put in the effort. I respected my bosses and upper management, everyone was extremely talented and really good with Excel. Work life balance was good, you can go to the doctor or take off early if you need to.

    Cons

The quality of the people made it a lot better, but the office culture itself was old school and stuffy. Several people left the department around the same time I did

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue using data driven decision making. I enjoyed interactions I had with the management, but maybe find a way to increase employee engagement and lighten the atmosphere of the office.
