I worked at Winners part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Initial training is very helpful. It introduces individuals to the work ethics and what is required of the individual once he joins Winners. Individual get hazard training as well.

    Cons

Unprofessional environment. There is camaraderie between the employees. The trust factor which is so important between the employees lacks at all levels.

Former Employee - Assistant Manager in Surrey, BC (Canada)

I worked at Winners full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The people you work with are generally fantastic; there is documentation for comprehensive training available; there are off-site facilitated courses for members of management; district and regional management generally stay in close touch with you; easy to get promoted if you work hard.

    Cons

It is a tremendously anti-labour environment (management is threatened with discipline or dismissal if a store is at risk of a bargaining drive); the pay is very low; time pressure is extreme; your direct reports (especially coordinators) are not empowered.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Empower Store Coordinators to perform more supervisory functions, so that Assistant Managers have more time to provide store leadership and higher-level management and planning.

    -Low discount.
    -Reviews are once a year.
-Takes a while to clean up the store.

I have been working at Winners

    Pros

Option of working in the warehouse - little customer interaction
Or working on the floor and on cash - more customer interaction
    Lots of training available

    Cons

Doesn't appear to be a lot of opportunities for advancement
Performance reviews only once a year
    Management turnover is very high

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would love to see improved use of technology within the company, such as accessing schedules online.
I really appreciate the renovations and the new look of the stores, though!

    I worked at Winners

    Pros

Co-workers a joy to work with
Very good workplace culture - diverse, respectful, courteous, easygoing
Managers have a very good attitude and are very considerate despite high stress nature of their job
    Pay is average
Cashier training is good, consists of workbook procedures, shadowing, and being supervised

    Cons

    Hours not very flexible
Perpetual mess in store, lots of picking up/physical activity
Cash registers inefficient due to outdated machines
    Employee discount very low
    Not many company parties
Sometimes have to get off quite late to close store
Performance review only once a year
Managers have too much to manage
Stocking associate training is less good, mostly left to own device

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep it up with the great attitude, but hire more people to increase flexibility for both managers and employees! Also give more feedback on performance and pay managers more for what they have to do.

I have been working at Winners

    Pros

    -Laid back work atmosphere
    -Management is great
-Opportunity to grow within the company
-Customer service is not mandatory. The company has an "outlet store" mentality, customer comes in finds something they like and leaves
-3 times a year associated get %20 discount on everything, sometimes based on store performance it could go up to %35
    -Health and safety is valued

    Cons

-The communication between the management and the associates sometimes lack (they try to hide stuff as if it is a government secret)
-Pay is not satisfactory. the reviews are done once a year
They cut the hours - even from f/t associates but hire new part timers
    -Associate discount is %10
-Managers give different information on rules and procedures which affects productivity
-Benefits start after 1 year for p/t associates

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communication needs improvement. Not only between management and associate but managers themselves.
