I have been working at Wipro full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Reasonably priced health care plan, including high deductible/health savings plan option.
    Decent 401K
    Telecommuting encouraged when practical.
The inevitable employee buyer perks program (x% off purchases at various stores, points for purchase dollars, etc.)

    Cons

Depends on what part of the company you work in - if your management depends on input from India, expect delays (in decisions, meetings, conference calls, etc.). Time difference is one cause, attitudinal difference is nanother. Profit is, however, a big discriminator. No pay increase is automatic, it seems; it all depends on profitability, new business, etc.
Office politics are significantly different - more pervasive (and seems almost expected). Plausible denial rampant.
Technically oriented company and technical support is primarily based off-site (US ops are considered off-site to main company), which can mean delays in getting things done.
Can be difficult for newbie to get information about how things work. Employee web site is constantly changing without notice. However, emails can fill your in-box quicker than you can empty them - company contests, social group news, all in addition to company news and technical "accomplishments."
And the paid time off program is not good, Don't count on rolling vacation over from one year to another, and if you want to take vacation, then don't get sick because there is only one pool of hours for both, and it accrues slowly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management doesn't take advice, even when they hire good people because of their knowledge and abilities to succeed.

    Pros

Just short of stabbing the customer, you will have a job no matter how incompetent you are...if you are an Indian employee, you might have the opportunity to go on-site out of India in almost any place in the world.

If you are reasonably committed to your job and take pride in your work, you will be a rockstar.

Many people at your peer level will be some of the most solid, hospitable and genuine people you will ever meet.

    Cons

The cons are legion if you are an experienced IT professional in the US.

    -Compensation below market
    -Huge uncompensated overtime expected
    -Very littel recognition
-Poor leadership and direction across all levels of the organization
-Almost no defined process for on-boarding at a customer location
-Total lack of organization and utilization of tools
-Annual review process is a joke
-No pay hikes or career advancement for on-site employees
-On-site employees do a majority of the difficult tasks, off-shore is more of a warm-body network of new recruits who cut their teeth, gain some experience and move on to better things after about 18 months
-Program directors and above in my experience have been arrogant and out of touch with what their delivering to the customer and generally are not invested in their employees.
-High attrition among delivery managers, program managers, program directors, delivery heads etc. Reminds me of the US during the Dotcom era
-A double standard with regard to how they treat Indian employees and everyone else

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This company needs a systemic and cultural shift that I do not think they are capable of. Encourage retention, dissuade cronyism and vendetta. Develop and policy and procedure framework that is easy to navigate and access.

any more advice and that will cost you $250/hr in consulting fees.

    Pros

Somewhere to go and pass too much of your time and generally get paid for time spent.

    Cons

    Problem with payroll...it's in India
    Need training...it's in India
Need to pass pesky required tests to certify your skills...cheat like everyone else. Passing means nothing except keeping your job.
Have an HR issue...at least some are in New Jersey
    Have an expense...good luck!
Working overtime...don't do it. It may not be approved even though you're legally entitled.
Want to get ahead in your career...don't settle down and go where they send you, otherwise leave.
Like where you are...pray you don't get flagged for rotation after 2 years.
Very high turnover. Seems like nearly everyone that left was replaced by an H1 visa.

    I can go on...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Go back to India. Hire competent American managers, correct all mentioned cons, and develop a meaningful new hire process. Know your client contracts, and clarify the roles and responsibilities to your employees.
