Former Employee - Consulting Manager in New York, NY

I worked at Wipro full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of very open people. Many on the leadership team are from Deloitte, McKinsey, PwC, etc. Learning from them was great. Lots of different kinds of clients. So basically, it's kinda like your mileage will vary and you hope to get lucky by working with one of the good ones.

    Cons

There wasn't much training outside of the beginning because the firm is focused on revenue and will not allocate time for an employee to improve their skills. Many of the projects are DEEP in technology. You will likely be the only American/westerner on a team staffed by technical resources recently relocated from India (so expect all kinds of challenges - communication, expectation, time allotment, etc. - in addition to the work).

I have been working at Wipro full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Consulting group is very entrepreneurial. Lot of flexibility of movement for developing clients and content. Overall team approach of employees is good in addressing client needs. Solid capable employees

    Cons

Very sales driven culture. Worked when labor arbitrage model was driver of business. Business now needs to be more strategic but not managed that way. Short term tactical numbers focus. While this is important in any business there has to be some balance of longer term investment. Indian culture is very driven by relationships and connections as opposed to merit. Lot of back room dealings on allocation of sales credits. Non Indians are treated as second class citizens at some level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in strategic resource placement in verticals. Look beyond short term numbers for impact and measure employees on more qualitative contribution measures in addition to sales, margins, CSATs, etc. Don't abandon that just balance it with long term growth. Average size of deal and trends. Feedback from senior executives beyond CSAT.
