Pros
WPS Health Insurance is service oriented, community centered, and has a friendly work environment. It is a non profit with vision for the future.
Cons
The work atmosphere can be restrictive due to the many federal and state government regulations and security protocols. Soem people seem to be working on fundraisers and other non work projects.
Pros
Job security, competitive salary, white collar work with a blue collar attitude
Cons
Lack of management support for process improvement, undefined career paths
Advice to Senior Management
Consider employee recommendations and open your lines of communication
Pros
Job Security. If you can put up with the constant micromanaging and incorrect requirements from management you could retire at this company.
Cons
If you love your job and take pride in doing good work then this is NOT the place for you.
If you enjoy having to redo the same task over and over again due to manager incompetence and a manager not being aware of the real requirements for the task, then this is the place to be.
Advice to Senior Management
Management needs to analyze why consultants have such a high termination rate.
As a permanent employee, I saw 14 consultants arrive in December 2009 for the North Contract coding. Within TWO months 11 of these consultants had left.
The morale among the permanent employees is non-existant, with MANY planning to find new employment as soon as the job market improves.
Pros
Pay is good
Health insurance is really great, though not a ton of flexibility in terms of doctors
Alternate Work Schedules allow for more flexibility in terms of work/life balance
Cons
Very limited flexibility in management decisions because of union contract
Union is a joke, never helpful when needed
Promotions are limited
Advice to Senior Management
Get a better union contract that allows decisions to be based on job performance instead of ridiculous guidelines. Treat employees with more respect
Pros
Can work 4, 10 hour days. They give us casual dress days almost every week.
Cons
In Wausau we are not union so we have to pay insurance premiums unlike Madison. We also don't get a cost of living raise every year like they also get. Some supervisors are raving b$@&'s and play favorites. DK.
Most of the time I feel like management treats us like children with their rules they like to impose. For example; you can't sit at your desk for breaks or lunches, you get the
stink eye for standing by someone's desk while
supervisorsn talk all day. Wausau is so afraid to step on Madison's toes and is afraid to speak up.
and should really get rid of the RE system. Everything is dupe discretion so if you have a decent supe you have more perks. People abuse FMLA like it's going out of style.
I feel underpaid compaired to other insurance companies around here.
Advice to Senior Management
Please find a way to make us feel like adults. Since we have casual days all the time just make it mandatory and email us to dress up when visitors are on campus.
Pros
The fact that there is employer paid insurance is the best. However, you get a guarenteed 4% cost of living raise each year but your cost of copays and deductibles go up that much or more.
Cons
promotions are given to those who have degrees. However, it doesn't matter what the degree is. A promotion to a management position would be given to someone who has a degree in the study of bugs with no insurance experiance over someone who has years of previous insurance with no degree.
Advice to Senior Management
It is very common to see supervisors of hourly staff give promotion recommendations to those they "like" vs those with knowledge. In addition, any one who uses their union can automatically expect repercussion from management even though it is prohibited. I have seen management want a person fired or demoted and they have seen to it that it is done
Pros
you’ll enjoy a challenging career, exciting advancement opportunities, and the stability of working for an insurance industry leader.
There’s a spirit of cooperation and communication that sets us apart, along with an enterprising atmosphere where personal growth is always encouraged.
The salary and benefits package is very competitive with the marketplace. They have been very flexible with starting and ending times, which has been a godsend with people with families or this crazy weather or traffic situation that appears from time to time.
Cons
Sometimes it's hard to find a parking spot.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep looking forward!
