I worked at Wolfgang Puck Catering (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Best food, great service, hard working people

    Cons

Terribly disorganized, awful leadership who are never on the same page as each other and constantly undermine each other, especially the culinary department who have no concept what teamwork means. As a middle manager or employee you will suffer and invariably be blamed for all the mistakes that happen as a result of the terrible communication between leadership and the field.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take ownership of the direction in which the company wants to go and stamp out interfering chefs whose only goal is to ensure the culinary department's well being and not the overall good of the company

I have been working at Wolfgang Puck Catering part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Well organized events. Excellent food. Dedicated staff.

    Cons

The work is often tediious, most of the events take place at night and the work is "On Call" so yo don't always know if there will be any week available.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There need to be staff evaluations led by the managers on company time, with advanced training. The comapny needs to promote more butlers to management while doing a better job of promoting from wiithin. There needs to be more positive reinforcement, and mentoring opportunities.

I worked at Wolfgang Puck Catering as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

They have flexible jobs and if you're invested and show interest, you can get into their leadership and training programs which will result in a pay increase and promo opps to management.

    Cons

The hours can be long, since it is catering, but that is expected.

I worked at Wolfgang Puck Catering part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Learned much about catering; decent pay; upscale working environments. Part-time hours offered flexibility in raising a family.

    Cons

Not a full-time job; hours varied so you never had a set schedule or income to depend on. Some people worked extremely hard, while others slacked off and supervisors wouldn't say anything because they were afraid the slackers would quit.

I worked at Wolfgang Puck Catering

    Pros

I feel that overall Wolfgang Puck Catering is a good company to work for. Good people, Good environment, decent support.

    Cons

I felt that they paid fairly poorly and way below the average comapred to other similar companies. Lack of training, I was just throw in and expected to do everything the way they wanted it....but I think some of that was related just to my specific manager.

    Pros

making 20 per hr is nice

    Cons

managers who don't care about the brutal working conditions. some shifts include taking heavy platters of food up and down 5 flights of stairs for 7 hours straight. they will literally work you to the bone and often times are too busy to give breaks to the employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

grow some respect for other human beings.

I have been working at Wolfgang Puck Catering full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits through its parent company Compass group, free lunch, and most of the people in management are great to work with. For those moving up in the culinary field, this is a good opportunity to get a good name on your resume, and after a year, you can move laterally within the parent company (Compass Group) for a better opportunity.

    Cons

They hire a lot of kids out of culinary school, and foreign workers. Its a pass through for many of the culinary students, so they are able to keep labor pretty low. Hours can be very inconsistent, its the nature of the business. They hire a lot of people in the fall, and everyone gets a ton of hours, and then after New Years, boom, you go from 70 hours a week to 15 hours. Something they fail to mention in their interview. As business improves late in the year, they are quick to hire cheap labor, and slow to increase the hours of those who have been waiting for the business to come back.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat those in the ranks who show up day to day with a little more respect, and be more aware of their needs.
