    Pros

Good work ethic, once you get the practice, procedure and protocol. A job for life if you work well within your team.

    Cons

Left to your own devices, this suits my way of working but this may not be for everyone. Sink or swim sort of job.

    Advice to Management

Give staff access to true cost prices, all seems a little cloak and dagger. Which is frustrating when trying to win some orders when against stiff competition.

    Pros

Depending on branch/network management there is a real enthusiam to do things the right way. Great leadership, training and support.

    Cons

Lot of box ticking exercises. Some 'old school' types reluctant to move with the times. Infrastructure and head office support can be lacking.

    Advice to Management

Greater chances to progress for all employees if they desire.

    Pros

Good career progression if willing to learn and have a broad range of skills.
New employee benefits scheme with surprisingly good deals and options.

    Cons

The lack of knowledge spread across the business when it comes to disseminating information to all employee levels. Sometimes decisions are made without obtaining advice from the people it may affect.

    Advice to Management

    Communication, communication, communication.

    Pros

Different challenges every day, really enjoyed my role, lovely people and a great employer

    Cons

I thoroughly enjoyed working for Wolseley, the only down side was being made redundant

    Advice to Management

Give me my old job back :)

    Pros

The best reason to work there ,is money. Really good pay. Second reason is shares saving program. Hard to find positive things.

    Cons

Most of ours equipment is unsafty . Old ,broken, terrible VNA-s,RIDE-ON's and FLT. They don'y provide even enought space to do duty. They don't treat people equally.

    Advice to Management

Start listing people. Provide us equipment. CHeck condition of warehouse( floor, bariers, trucks).

    Pros

One of the bigger and better ran companies (finance wise) so jobs are stable
Some of the personnel were great to work with and knowledgeable (down to earth)
    Forgiving and relaxed atmosphere
    Good communication from Senior Management
Share Save scheme as incentive is quite good if you are with the company long enough to enjoy it
    Good paid over time scheme
Wide range of negotiated discount with consumer good providers

    Cons

Rarely will you get time off to do training even if there is budget allocated and middle management will rather burn pound notes just to make their point.
Culture of over reliance on inefficient project managers (who did not even know what a pert chart was) which resulted in a huge draw of resources. Resources which were already short due to HUGE turnovers and head count freeze.
Unless your face fits forget about climbing out of the hole you were recruited into (if you were a new talent recruited: good luck fitting in).
Ever shifting goal posts and changing directions.
New Grow and Grow Up models of performance assessment may actually be illegal.

    Nepotism Nepotism Nepotism

    Advice to Management

Look past the middle management who will tell you just what you want to know not what is good for Wolseley even if the message is unpalatable.
There is an official organisational culture which is really good but sub-cultures (blame and cliques) ruined it and ran against the grain.

    Pros

Pension & benefits plan is good, a lot of good people still resisting the "Wolseley way" of working!

    Cons

Very strange and overly rigid branch role structure, progression impossible in some sectors as promotion would give you seniority over the person running the branch!! People put in charge of sectors they don't understand and blindly implementing unworkable policies, usually handed down by unrealistic senior managers.

    Advice to Management

Put your senior management on the shop floor for a few days, stop the "in a perfect world" way of thinking & stop the "we are Wolseley & people want to buy from us" way of thinking, both are wrong & the way things are being run is causing the Wolseley group to hemorrhage money AND customers!

    Pros

Quick and fast learning on the job - "thrown in the deep end"

    Cons

Poor support. Head office and upper management never involved in branch level, so hard to relate. Stock take in between Christmas and new year, slowly having to work all bank holidays, also told to work such bank holidays at short notice after being told we can have them off!

    Advice to Management

Relate to branches, support managers more with real professional development and training,

    Pros

    Nice people, & free parking

    Cons

Not paid enough, not nearly enough

    Advice to Management

Pay employees more than 15k a year.

    Pros

If your'e in the right place at the righrt time you can go far in this company. good training ethics, salaries not bad depending where you are and what you do. Plenty of jobs advertised internally.

    Cons

Conditions change constantly. Directors seem to come and go, no consistant leadership.Priorities change at the drop of a hat.

    Advice to Management

Choose a direction and stick with it!! Revive the career workbook for junior staff and obide by it as staff progress. Let sales staff sell and managers manage. Too many reports to complete and too many meeting to attend.
