    Pros

Freedom to own and shape your work area with the support of management when you know what you want and can demonstrate it's value to the business. Some great people and a great atmosphere within which to work.

    Cons

No articulation of the overall business direction and a lack of alignment of the different work areas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Work Group full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Highly skilled innovative team, great atmosphere, supportive mentoring, positive and enthusiastic environment, interesting and varied work

    Cons

Poor management; management is badly structured and under skilled. Ineffective decision making and a lack of support for the wealth of talent available has led to a steep decline in quality, retention of clients, progression and moral. Potential is undeveloped, reporting lacks transparency and reputation is at risk

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Streamline management layers, talk to the people on the ground and get back on track

I worked at Work Group full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Some really bright people to work with; and in the early days, a real desire to do things differently. Still has a strong reputation.

    Cons

Lack of vision for the business; and no firm leadership. It has struggled post-2008, and there have been some odd recruitment and management decisions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be disruptive once again. In what is a very competitive market, there needs to be a very clear vision and purpose. Take control.

I have been working at Work Group

    Pros

Fantastic team of people who love what they do. We come from all sorts of backgrounds and age groups and everyone has an opportunity to contribute - there's no such thing as a silly idea. We also started off as a very small company and now despite the fact that we have grown a lot and opened offices around the world, we try hard to maintain a small company environment.

    Cons

We are ambitious and 'good enough' is never good enough. This environment doesn't suit everyone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep communicating with staff at all levels

    I worked at Work Group

    Pros

There is the potential to be involved in stimulating work with high-profile global clients on a regular basis. There is also plenty of variety form one day to the next because you work with a number of client organisations on a range of different projects. Many of your coleagues are highly experienced and skilled but there is also the potential to pass on your own experience and knowledge through mentoring and training opportunities.

    Cons

Like all businesses in the communications sector, the organisation can demand long-hours to meet the rquired deadines. This mean that key personnel often find theselves working far longer than many of theri colleagues.Needs more focus on work/life balance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Greater involvement of middle management in operational decisions

I have been working at Work Group

    Pros

There's always something new to learn, and you'll be given the freedom to learn, propose new ideas, and - with a good rationale - experiment. I've seen for myself that there are career opportunities, and as the group integrates further it is likely that there will be new and more opportunities. There is a very mature, trusting attitude to requirements for work-life balance. Any big requests will be considered, any small requirements are agreed, in the knowledge that you'll make any time up. That plays a big part in ensuring people feel trusted and that refelects well on the overall morale.

    Cons

The flipside of always doing something new is that it can feel as though you're always devising processes for the first time. I think many people within the business at times feel tempted to just want to get really good at a process and keep doing that. From a personal perspective, that does seem tempting, but I know how much less satisfying it actually is. Our clients have come to expect the latest thinking, and to manage their expectations and build better relationships we need to provide it. I think there is also some frustration that a lot of thinking goes on in parallel, but without any good ways to match that thinking up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We're experts on communications - but often forget to apply our best prectice internally.
