Pros
The initial corporate training that is provided when hired is one of the first great aspects of the company that I noticed. Here at Worldwide Express, everyone wants to succeed as well as wants YOU to succeed. The support you get not only from your own office, but at the corporate level is dissimilar to other companies of this magnitude. Worldwide Express provides the training and resources in order to make every employee a successful one, if you want to be. They give you the tools, and it is up to you to prove it to yourself as well as your market.
Cons
The hardest part of working for a sales organization is that it is really up to you on how well you want to perform and succeed. I have the privilege to work for a wonderful market that is constantly growing and it is up to me to continue the success and growth. In the Account Manager position, it is my role to ensure that my entire market's book of business is satisfied and happy with service. At time it is extremely stressful because it is up to me to ensure success for this market based on attrition and retention. I know I will be in this position for the long haul and wouldn't change anything about my team or market.
Pros
Worldwide Express is a great company for anyone wanting to break into Entry Level Sales. As a Worldwide Express Account Executive you gain access to:
-Fortune 500 Training
-Tons of Growth Potential
-Great Income
-Fun and Fast Paced Selling and Learning Environment
-Knowledgeable and Driven Leaders
The skill set that you learn with this job is invaluable and you will be able use it for the rest of your life!!!
Cons
This job is not a perfect fit for everyone and can be very difficult at times. If someone has trouble communicating effectively or gets hurt when people tell them "no", then this would not be a good opportunity for them.
Advice to Senior Management
We should have our National Sales Conference twice a year instead of just once!!! Conference offers everyone a chance to see what Worldwide Express is really about and I think if we could do this for our Employees on a more regular basis it would be beneficial.
Pros
I started in an entry-level position just like everyone else (account executive). I was given all the necessary tools to succeed: in house training, excellent corporate training, devotion from managers and a constant positive push to do well.
The opportunities for increased income are limitless. If you want to make more money, get bigger commission checks, you can, it's all up to you and how much you want it. There are always contests and the opportunity to earn even more money and recognition.
Lastly, the ability to move up, receive promotions is there for the people that do well and want it. If you are good at your job you will get paid more and you will advance. It is solely based on performance and ambition and I love that.
Cons
Like with any new position, it can be difficult to get started (I would expect no less), you have to be willing to put in the hard work, be determined, set the foundation for a successful future. You are in charge of everything you do, of building your book of business and you get out of it as much as you put in to it. It can be intimidating at first, but it pays off big time as you progress.
Advice to Senior Management
You're doing a great job, keep doing what you're doing, always remember that the people in this organization are the key to our success. As long as that is kept in mind in every decision we will always be successful.
Pros
The three best things about Worldwide Express are the culture, the training, and the opportunity for advancement.
I think a lot of people take the job specifically because of the culture. This organization is made up of driven, competitive, like-minded people. I like coming to work each day, and I feel that everyone on my team always play for number one. We are dedicated to growing both personally and professionally each day.
The second best thing about this company is the training. The sales training at Worldwide Express is awesome. At every level of the organization, I can tell that my superiors genuinely care about my professional growth and development, and are committed to supporting my career goals. I am a good salesperson, and a respected business person, because of a lot of what I have learned at Worldwide Express training.
And finally, there is great opportunity for advancement at Worldwide Express. Promotions are based on performance, and top performers are recognized. Upper management will create new leadership roles for those who deserve to be promoted, and there are clear benchmarks to hit in order to be promoted. The opportunity for advancement (and income) is great.
Cons
Sales is not for everyone. And, outside sales (specifically) can be very challenging. This is not an "easy" job. We work long days (getting to the office at 8am, and staying after 5pm), and we have bad days. There can be a lot of rejection in sales, especially outside sales, and this position.
(For our franchise, at least) there aren't any of the perks that you might see at other organizations like "free gym membership," or "free food at the office all day."
Advice to Senior Management
The senior management team is comprised of focused, tenacious leaders. They teach, lead, and inspire. I like knowing that our leadership has been in the field, has been where I am, and is always looking out for the best of the organization as a whole. Our growth and success starts with them, and I wouldn't ask them to change anything.
Pros
For anyone researching a position at WWEX, you need to know one thing: this is a sales company. We work hard, play hard.
For the right person, this is an awesome opportunity. There is a great basic sales training for every new class of reps in Dallas, TX. Following this training are a number of other continuous training conferences both at the franchise and corporate level. Every franchise is different (some larger than others) but at the corporate level this company is growing rapidly and it's a really exciting time to get in at the ground level because it's only going to keep getting bigger.
I personally belong to one of the top tier franchises, so I have access to a lot of resources and successful members of the company on a daily/weekly basis. It's all promote from within, so the growth opportunities are endless and senior management is extremely active at the local level.
Great base salary plus benefits and a residual commission structure makes even the toughest days on the job worth it.
The best thing about worldwide is definitely the culture. I made lifelong friends with members of my training class in Dallas, and my local team is amazing. We all have similar personalities and the environment is supportive yet very competitive as well. Like I said before, it's a very work hard play hard attitude around here. If you work hard, want to make money, and have a good time doing so then I would recommend my company 100%.
Cons
Every job has a downside...
- Can have some pretty long days (10-12 hrs)
- Some people hate life and are thus very rude to you, and getting kicked out of buildings isn't all that fun either.
- Figuring out the whole work/life balance thing takes some effort up front
Other than that, they don't ask much of you besides to work your butt off... not really all that bad if you ask me!
Advice to Senior Management
Very happy with how this company is run. Looking forward to being a part of the team heading into 2012. It's going to be a great year.
Pros
Good place to start with outside sales
Freedom because its outside sales
Great for those who can't sit at a desk all day
Cons
Micro managed
People you sell to sometimes talk to you like you don't have a degree or a clue
Commission structure is not fair...get a $200/ week shipper and get a $125 commission, get $1500/week shipper and still get the same $125 commission---no incentive to work harder for the "big fish"
Promotions are impossible unless you kiss the right butts bceuase the company/ franchise is too small
Only want sales reps fresh out of college so they can pay them pennies and get away with it
Advice to Senior Management
Pay your employees what they are worth because they are what makes it possible for you to have a job! Once you see you have a star, increase their pay if you want to keep them.
Pros
You receive a week of paid training at the Hilton in Dallas. I formed many life-long friends from my training class, and although I am no longer with the company I still am in touch with the reps from my class. By far the best training program there is; it is very motivating and intense. The company culture is fantastic and you could win a lot of money from the contests. Good opportunities for advancement.
Cons
The interview did not prepare me for the actual job functions. The owner interviewed me and did a great job describing the company and culture, the trips our office would take, holidays parties, etc. I was under the impression it was an account manager position, and that I would be serving clients.
You actually spend 85% of your time cold calling business-to-business, and will be forced to knock on at least 50 doors everyday. You will be expected to set up an appointment with the owner within the first few weeks. If you can't handle rejection, I would suggest not looking into this job. People will be very rude, since you are technically soliciting. I was kicked out of a prestigious office building my first week on the job.
The business model is very outdated, as they only want you to start at the top, going above a VP of Ops, Controllers, etc. and set meetings with Owners and Presidents. Business owners could care less about a $250/week FedEx invoice, and you will waste your time trying to get them to meet you-the VP of Operations is there for a reason. I lost an account because I spent too much time trying to get the President on the phone; that same week a large competitor closed the Purchasing Manager.
You have no control over not being able to "win" an account, as they very often can change their mind or go with another logistics company at the last minute. More often than not, we weren't actually able to price accounts, and the customer was getting better discounts than we could offer. This affects your closing ratio and will make you look unsuccessful. There is little customer appreciation, and you will lose accounts this way.
They describe the base salary as being $35K-$40K+ with "uncapped commissions; it's closer to $23K+. It will take over a year to actually gain traction in your customer base and receive actual commissions over $400.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't expect the entry-level account executives to brand the company and advertise the company's reputation. Brand the company and develop advertising and marketing techniques.
Pros
- Extensive training program
- Advancement opportunities
- Base salary with an uncapped commission structure
- Freedom to define own success
Cons
- Rigerous day to day activity
- Must be proactive and persistent
- Very competative
- Must be willing to go beyond general expectations
Pros
One of the best training programs, competitive environment, advancement opportunities, great residual income opportunity in years 2+, autonomy. It's like any other job-you'll have to put in effort and dedication if you want to move ahead. This isn't one for the complacent. I worked with the company for 3 years and developed great sales techniques which transferred over to my next position. Now that I'm in another sales position I am crushing it and I can only attribute it to the hard work mentality that WWE instilled in me.
Cons
cold calling can be a challenge sometimes, I don't take rejection personally but there are some who can't. Some franchises are too small and therefore don't have as much opportunity for advancement as others.
Pros
Great training program
Opportunities for advancement
Awesome environment for someone committed to their career
Serious place but a lot of fun
Cons
They expect a lot (is that all that bad??)
Advice to Senior Management
Considering WWEX is a franchised based environment (each office will be different) my experience with leadership has been great. My team has multiple offices in the Midwest and we have a direct connection to many in the corporate office. I hope to see leadership continue to push the team hard as it has opened many opportunities for those that perform. As a fairly young person in the organization I hope to carve out a very long term career path. The grass isn’t greener!
