Advice to Senior Management
more proactive employee performance and career discussions
Pros
1. Large engineering firm. If you're looking to get certified (engineer or technologist) you'll get the experience to get that certification. Good company for a young engineer/technologist looking to get experience.
2. If you're an unmotivated individual employee, you will thrive here. Generally, they want "yes" people to do their menial chargeable work. Enjoy spending 8 hours a day collecting a pay check? WorleyParsons is for you.
3. Salaries aren't bad as they do follow the APEGGA salary surveys. However, during the downturn, the majority of the employees took pay cuts while the head of the Canadian entity got a 16% increase in salary.
Cons
If you do decide to work here, go into the company with a set of goals of what you want out of the company.
1. They do not care for their people. Though it's a "differentiator" in their corporate fluff statements, they do not exhibit it at all.
2. Money is everything to them. Changeability is everything. If you are useless to them in any way, they will let you go. Since changeability is everything, any job that one competent employee could do, would be split between three employees for the sake of changeability.
3. Innovation is not required. Why do things quicker when clients will pay for the slower method?
4. They provide "value" engineering, NOT "value-added" engineering. What does that mean? Old computers and dirty offices.
5. Middle management is useless. Most of them are good engineers but they are poor managers.
Advice to Senior Management
You claim people are important. Show it.
As of right now, all you're doing is harvesting people.
Pros
the office location is out of downtown so the commute is great. relaxed work environment. good work life balance. care about staff.
Cons
junior staff put in roles they are not qualified for. professional staff don't always treat support staff respectful. lots of corporate work is being that done that does't make much difference.
Advice to Senior Management
pay your staff comparable to market or all your good people will always end up leaving. the reasons you think people join a company and stay has changed.
Pros
can relocate to other locations worldwide.
Cons
This has become a big company from acquisitions of many small to medium sized companies. Therefore, there is not yet a culture of a large company. It might take this company forever to develop a culture of a big company.
There is little to none communication between the management and the employees. Even small matters, like office moving, are brought into the employee attention at the last moment. I know people who were laid off at few hours notice.
Advice to Senior Management
They need to invest in the development of intellectual infrastructure. The company of this size cannot and should not work on adhoc basis and quick fix solutions.
Pros
worldwide presency, good managed company, well organised, trying to provide compensation and benefit on the basis of background,
Cons
Management not always inform the employee about the status of Company.
Advice to Senior Management
Pl. be more find more effective way to know the employees.
