Pros
decent benefits, good products on the market, high quality standards, good location for commuting, fair work practices, summer hours, discounted purchase of company products in company store.
Cons
Multiple reorgs prior to buyout by Pfizer, not conducive for good morale, announcement of layoffs, total business restructuring, future for current employees not certain.
Advice to Senior Management
Used to work in management, didn't like the flaky politics, not part of the "inner circle", was not promoted for service.
Pros
Wyeth used to be a great place to work when they were located in Radnor, PA. Big company with a small company feel. Back then, you were recognized for your accomplishments and there were many growth opportunities. People in general really liked working for this company.
Cons
After they moved to Collegeville, everything changed. The culture became entirely different...very political and no longer mattered what you knew but who you knew. This was the "beginning of the end" for Wyeth in my opinion. Approximately 7 years later, they were bought by Pfizer.
Advice to Senior Management
Leadership at Wyeth failed in the later years and not surpisingly, they were taken over. With the right management and decision-making, there would still be Wyeth today
Pros
Good work/life balance
Competitive compensation
Excellent employee training opportunities
Opportunities for advancement
Being part of a company whose drugs save lives
Cons
Overly bureaucratic. Size of organization a bit imposing.
Industry regulation prevents thinking outside of the box when solving problems
Sales force given little opportunity to alter the work environment
Advice to Senior Management
find ways to cut thru red tape
lighten up on the rules whenever possible.
Find ways to allow employees to come together in casual environments
Pros
Challenging work in the Life Sciences areas. Very good salary and benefits. Professional decor and first class equipment provided. Overall, Wyeth was a good place to work.
Cons
With the purchase of Wyeth by Pfizer, it is clear that the company is being run from a financial perspective.
Advice to Senior Management
Leadership needs to return to the strategies and way of business that made Wyeth a world class successful global business.
Pros
Wyeth has good benefits including paid time off for paternal leave.
Supported diversifying manufacturing sites to add redundancy and risk reduction
Cons
At Wyeth, you were expected to work long hours as the jobs started to be eliminated and additional responsibilities placed on employess.
Advice to Senior Management
Wyeth management took care of themselves when finalizing a deal with Pfizer.
Disappointed with the merger. Wyeth was on the right track with their business.
Pros
Wyeth was a good place to work. The atmosphere was pleasant and the work interesting and challenging. Advancement was about average for a large company, especially if you were a good performer and went above the call of duty.
Cons
Since Pfizer has now acquired Wyeth, the atmosphere is filled with tensions. People don't know their status and even if they've been told they have a job, they later come to find out that they don't. Pfizer's pay scale is a bit better than Wyeth's but there are no annual bonuses for those below a very high level (Director and above). Newcomers may fair better than legacy Wyeth people as Pfizer's MO is to rid themselves of legacy people, especially anyone with more than 5 years. Layoffs are not well thought out and the company goes out of its way to avoid the mandatory 2 months WARN law.
Advice to Senior Management
Get your act together quickly so that those who have been retained are willing to stay. A lot of good people were let go and a lot of good people are looking to get out so that they don't face the rigors of being unemployed and deemed undesirable by other companies.
Pros
Great small community feel on-site. It has its' own bank with real tellers, cafeteria, lots of wide open space and an all inclusive recreation program. Good people. Best labs in the industry.
Cons
There is no Wyeth anymore. Being swallowed into the monolith of Pfizer was a huge blow to the morale and community as a whole.
Advice to Senior Management
Take the money and run.
Pros
The Collegeville location is an excellent place to work. It has several amenities including a gym, credit union and cafeteria.
Cons
Since the Pfizer buyout, morale is low. Pfizer is making decisions that will probably raise the short term bottomline, but hurt the long term profitability of the Wyeth products.
Advice to Senior Management
Rethink the decisions about new leadership.
Pros
Good pay. Good vacation policy, stock options were nice as well. Company provided relocation was also very good. Challenging and rewarding work environment.
Cons
A lot of of overtime. Once at corporate, I felt a little more pigeonholed, and it was harded to get involved around the company.
Advice to Senior Management
It's probably too late now as the company is now owned by Pfizer. It was a fun ride, and they helped me out a ton with professional develoment.
Pros
Overall a great company but kissing up to management will get you promoted vs working hard and truly focusing on the deliverables. Great pay usually above market and those people that come from outside of pharma get a good/great increase in salary/compensation.
Cons
Alot of promotions get filled thru your contacts. Happens everywhere but Wyeth has a legacy.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees and truly see who is working hard and watch for people who have no substance.
