Pros
Good salary and benefits. Pockets of strength and quality leadership. Some very good people. Decent work/life balance. Nice facilities - I'm digging now!
Cons
Weak leadership. Lack of respect for employees. Not rewarding of employees taking calculated risks. Not effective at managing/making changes. Do not walk the talk in general. Limited investment in training/growing and developing people. Lots of politics and corporate BS.
Advice to Senior Management
You blew it!
Pros
Good working conditions and its location. I enjoy very much working with my reports and peers. Overall you have to learn to deal with how senior managment works.
Cons
Very difficult review process. Way to much opinionated. I do not like to "HOLD THE SALARY LINE" he is making to much money. But, the Director level and above reward themselves with huge raises , PIA and stock. SUCKS!!
Advice to Senior Management
Some of you should go play on 422, Most need managment training. Rewards and pay increases outside of the research area need to be investigated.
Pros
Wyeth offers a great base salary with quarterly bonuses also. The benefits are good and include a company car and 4 weeks vacation plus normal holidays.
Cons
We are currently in the process of being bought out by Pfizer. Our upper management sold us out and made a killing doing so.
Advice to Senior Management
I wish that Wyeth would have stayed an independent company. The only people that seem to be looking forward to this buyout are the leaders at the very top who will be leaving with millions of dollars in their pockets.
Pros
Wyeth has a positive and caring culture - one that drives for and rewards strong performance and results. Performance matters. Leadership and employees have embraced the changes needed to build the strong organization.
Cons
Wyeth is going through a lot of change at the moment given the pending Pfizer acquisition. This has resulted in distractions and uncertainty.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the robust communications regarding the integration work and activities. It is crucial in helping employees stay connected and is of great value.
Pros
Wyeht has assembled a really great talent pool at the middle management level. There is a lot of innovative science in R&D. Sr. management does a pretty good job at assessing the market place and making changes to position the company for the future.
Cons
Sometimes science is compromised for speed and metircs. Sr. management has prioritized volume over quality at times and it has had negative effects on approvals as evident by recent management turnover.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on the science and the approvals will come.
Pros
The benefits and the majority of research staff are very knowledgeable. However, this talent is usually suppressed and seems like it is actually frowned upon. The projects are interesting, but are usually managed to the point where there are collapses in communication resulting in time wasting redundancies.
Cons
The middle and upper management is abysmal. Very little communication even between affiliated departments. Management has strong favorites, even when the favorites are complete dead-weight to the work and goals at hand. No competency or idea what goes into certain work or studies that they are involved with. If there is an issue at hand, management literally tries to sweep it under the carpet. Out of sight of mind, regardless of how minor or severe the issue is.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn to actually manage and try to re-learn the science that is at your hands.
Pros
resources, i.e, technoligies, IT support, latest approaches to increasing efficiency in GLP
Cons
management lacks real intents on developing talent. Only posterboards and slideshows is their approach.
Advice to Senior Management
come up with real-time assesment programs on developing talent and a careful assesment of the difference between competency on the benchtop and competency in managing others
Pros
Great (talented and personable) people; great products. Has potential to be a powerhouse and great place to work, if employees were given more consideration as the most valuable resource (in actual fact, not just on paper!).
Cons
Poor leadership in area of human relations; reward system / promotions highly political and subjective, based on who you know / who you are, not what you do. Focus on short-term, without regard to long-term objectives.
Advice to Senior Management
Value your employees; treat fairly and as individuals. Let go of quotas, and quit favoring only those "golden" employees who can do no wrong in the eyes of certain management (even when it's evident to the bulk of the workforce that they have often failed)
Pros
Satisfaction in producing a product that helps children all over the world live a healthier life. Pay and benefits are good for the area.
Cons
This operation is 24/7 which means long hours and a not so flexible work schedule.
Advice to Senior Management
Be open and honest with communication as it comes available and can be distributed. Do not lose focus on what our site is about, getting a great product out into the world to save lives.
Pros
Wyeth is a people focused organization. They treat their people fairly and with respect. They communicate well.
Compension consists of salary, yearly bonuses, stock options, and spot awards.
Cons
Their talk about flexible schedules is a little more aggressive than the reality. For lower level within the organization, I have seen part-time and job sharing. For management, there is a perception that you have to been seen to be effective.
The benefits package is pretty comprehensive with no chage for any Wyeth prescriptions. The downside is that salary deductions for benefits are on a scale with the pay. (i.e. the higher paid, pay more for the same benefits).
Advice to Senior Management
Keep doing what you are doing with the communication style. Protect the Wyeth talent as we move into the Phizer world.
