Pros
Working in mission control center supporting the International Space Station is one of a kind job. Very exciting and always being challenged.
Cons
Sometimes have to work the graveyard shift for a week can have its toll. Overall though, the hours are not bad.
Advice to Senior Management
Great management. Was never micromanaged which makes it a lot easier to get the job done. Always trusted his employees to get their work done.
Pros
Laid back environment, no micro management.
Cons
No career advancement. Be ready to be stagnant in your career.
Pros
They provide access to great benefits and the pay is slightly greater than average. They reward loyalty well.
Cons
After the purchase of Wyle by an investment group, the 401(k) matching is sub-par. Upper management (Corporate) is filled with deadwood that should be trimmed to make us more efficient.
Advice to Senior Management
(Primarily directed at Wyle TDS) Reign in the sales guys promising the world and then leaving the engineers swinging in the wind. Investigate Agile software development practices to quicken development cycles. Listen more to your customers as to what they want from a product instead of building a product in a vacuum.
Pros
Solid ethics and leadership. They have the employee at heart as best they could. The pay is reasonable. Willing to award good work and loyalty to the company
Cons
You work for the contract and not the company. If the contract is not renewed then you in a couple of weeks are let go.
Pros
Laid-back work environment
Opportunities for growth
Cons
Workplace is progressively becoming more conservative
HUGE emphasis on documentation of procedures and formalities (double-edged sword)
Advice to Senior Management
I would try to keep the corporate culture that existed just a few years ago... I know that we need to appear professional for growth, but as we get larger I feel as though we are losing what made our workplace unique in the first place.
Pros
Lots of work to do challenging
Cons
Lots of childish behavior and territorial issues to accomplish anything in a cross departmental role
Advice to Senior Management
Provide a better environment to foster cooperation
Pros
Great benefits, good 401(k) contributions made by the company, "ok" 401(k) plan administrator. Competitive salaries. Generally speaking, seems to be the kind of company one could have a "career" with. Seems to be relatively low turnover, few "layoffs," and reasonable attempts are made to place employees elsewhere when these situations occur.
Cons
Most members of senior management are white, male, retired members of the military -- creating the perception of limited mobility for those not fitting that criteria. Very limited communication and interaction between senior management and employees. Leads some employees to feel more connected with their customer than the company.
Advice to Senior Management
Communicate more often, more candidly, and more directly (not through management "channels") with employees. Keep in mind communication works both ways -- allow employees to feel they've been "heard," even if no action is taken on their suggestions.
Pros
Wyle is honest when they say they believe in work/life balance. Mid sized company that feels like a small company. Senior Management are down to earth and easy to talk to. Opportunities abound at this company. I have never seen a company more focused on employee growth and development. They are working very hard to make this the preferred place to work, and doing a good job at it.
Cons
Your basic cons you find anywhere, you're never going to like everyone you work with but 99% of employees I've met and worked with are great people.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep doing what you're doing, Wyle is a great place to work and the leadership has a lot to do with it.
Pros
This is an engineering firm so you can get diversified experiences in engineering field.
Cons
Recent top management is miserable.
Advice to Senior Management
Respect the engineers who work for the company. Respect the customers whom wyle is working for.
Pros
Above industry standard benefits, very good communication between management and employees. Market leader in salaries. Family first mentality.
Cons
Glass ceiling is very obvious.
Advice to Senior Management
Watch salary desparity between peers based on gender.
