Former Employee - Sales in Munich (Germany)

    Pros

There is an opportunity to work for Dell-one of leading global IT companies.

    Cons

Lots of politics. It looks like nobody is telling what really thinks and feels. Hidden conflicts and even some aggression.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Must begin to behave as executive managers, with vision for next year not only for given week. Try to listen carefully what your new leaders are going to tell you and stop your artificial engagement.

    Current Employee - Sales Engineer
    Current Employee - Sales Engineer

    Pros

    --Exciting technology
    --Strong brand name
    --Great customer base

    Cons

--No OOTO message allowed on your inbox when traveling
--SEs are required to find two other SEs to volunteer to provide coverage when taking PTO.
--low paying job, yet was sold as a six figure job
--billed as 25% travel though travel has averaged 38% and at times can be much higher.
--Opinions are not valued by upper management. Middle management likes to rule with an iron fist.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The Sales Engineers work in tandem with the RSMs but are not treated as equals. SEs do not get to go to President's Club, are among the lowest paid SEs in the technology industry, cannot take sick days because there is no system in place for coverage, and the RSMs (Regional Sales Managers) get paid 2-3 times as much as the SE does.

    Pros

Opportunities to explore new products and technologies with strong support and funding from management. Very competitive compensation and benefits in a comfortable work enviroment.

Some of the management team can be short-sighted and arbitrary in their decision making, sometimes even becoming openly and outright hostile.

    Pros

Merger with Dell may create interesting working environment and big chance for positive changes.
Working for Dell, global corporation, is a chance for developing carrier path.
Combination of Dell servers und terminals is an interesting business offer.
Few good technicians with vast experience in field engineering.

    Cons

Short sighted, passive management doing little, just reviewing funnels. Or sending reminders that the given quarter is shorter than expected and closing the deal must take place immediately.
Huge distance between 'awesome atmosphere' and reality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

After merging with DELL weak management and corpo culture problem hopefully will be solved by DELL. Before the union:try to learn as much as you can to meet high management standard expectations. Switch from reactive to proactive mode (not just talking about such a change).

    Current Employee - Sales

    Pros

It is good company to step into IT industry, but bad practise and poor management should drive the worker to change withing maximum 2 years.. Offical corprate propoaganda fall far away from the practice, so it is good to observe by young beginners as well.

    Cons

No strategy. A lot of artificial facts and actionS. Very poor management, practically no management. A lot of hidden agenda and hidden issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire professional consultants or hire professional executive managers in order to implement necessary changes. Try to be less artificail and more true with people you deal with, not only with the workers.
