I have been working at XIFIN full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Coming up on two years, and I very am pleased with the growth and development this company has helped me achieve over that period. There is a wide base of expert-level talent here that can be tapped, and very open communication between the Engineering and Business groups. Developers work closely with the business managers, and are involved in the design process early on. You get invested in your projects, so the work does not seem tedious. I've learned a great deal in a short period of time - not only on the technical side, but on the business end as well.

This is a fast paced environment, and there are times where you need to ramp up quickly to understand some pretty complex processes. However, there is rarely a need to work late hours or weekends. Things are typically confined to a 9-5 workday, so there's plenty of time to enjoy the San Diego sun.

    Cons

The company has been expanding at a rapid pace, and is adapting its policies to fit its larger footprint. There can be a bit of an adjustment as these changes are implemented (stricter security policies, etc.).

I worked at XIFIN full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Don't get me wrong, the product Xifin has developed is game-changing in the diagnostic lab world. The company is only going up. The product is sound, the client base is impressive and the CEO is on point!

    Cons

Perks, this is easy, there are none. Oh, unless you consider a fountain soda machine and free bagel friday a perk. However, considering what other software companies do for their employees, its more like an insult. Middle management plays favorites and they only have one and everyone know's who she is. It's very sophomoric and inappropriate in the workplace. If i wanted to go back to Junior High, id hop in the DeLorean and charge up the flux capacitor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop promoting and endorsing this culture of "favorites". Start providing perks. You're never going to attract and/or keep top talent when everyone else pays more, offers more and provides more than you do!!

    I worked at XIFIN

    Pros

Upper executive management nice otherwise and flexible hours. Can't think of anything else positive since I was not there that long.

    Cons

Lots of micromanagement. After 16 working days there they figured I should know it all. To boot I did not have complete access to the system during the time there. Set up for failure.

I have been working at XIFIN full-time

    Pros

Stable and ethical management team. A healthy environment. Collaborative and supportive. The vision of the company is clear, forward-thinking and exciting. The atmosphere is happy, energetic, and delightful to be a part of. The management includes impressive people with strong backgrounds who lead the company in an organized, responsible, and admirable fashion. The culture is inviting and charming. The people are talented, friendly, collaborative, and overall optimistic.

    Cons

Overall a great place. Highly secure environment, which is an adjustment but makes sense and is something to be proud of.

    Keep up the good work!

I have been working at XIFIN full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The company is growing, and growing quickly, so there's good opportunity to grow your career. There is never a shortage of work to be done, and many of the projects are ambitious and challenging. Many in the leadership team think strategically and consider carefully the benefits and impact of the decisions made. The facilities are nice and there are free bagels every Friday. Compensation is competitive and managers are appropriately flexible with employees. Health benefits are good. Overall a good company to work for. If you work well, you will be treated very well.

    Cons

Due to security concerns, there are many rules and regulations to abide by, especially when it comes to access. This isn't necessarily bad, but it often leads to a drop in productivity. Some of these issues could be addressed, but there is resistance from some in power to make good progress on this. The parking lot is mostly for compact cars, door dings are inevitable. The company isn't very willing to allow employees to work from home. On occasion it may be ok, but for the most part, expect to be in the office if you're working that day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The IT infrastructure hasn't grown at the same rate as the company and is becoming a major bottleneck. Either IT staff needs to grow and become more organized, or they need to release more control to the employees to manage their own environments. As it is today, reliance on IT to help with any productivity blocking issue causes critical hours, or sometimes days of delays.

I have been working at XIFIN full-time

    Pros

Growing company, with great business model. Profitable company. Competitive pay and benefits. Going through typical growth pains right now but I can tell they are in the process of hiring top quality people to help moving from slower, old school processes to more dynamic product development methodology. You are able to make a huge difference in a short amount of time. Huge personal growth potential - being a smaller company you'll be exposed to and get the opportunity to grow if you want to.

    Cons

Couple people seem to hold things up by needing to approve things however I can see that changing as that model works for a 100 person company but not a dynamic growing company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue hiring great people that want to make a difference. Continue to take a chance and be open to new ways of doing things. Change holiday policy.

I have been working at XIFIN full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Your fellow employees - despite a few bad apples, HR has managed to find some of the best people I've ever worked with.
Location - Del Mar/Carmel Valley area is easily accessible from all over San Diego.
Summer events and Xmas parties - company foots the bill for you and your family. Last year was a Padres game and previous years have included Sea World, Wild Animal Park and Lego Land
Casual dress, soda machine and bagels on Fridays
Despite what others have said, you can have time off around the holidays. Just ask for it.

    Cons

Hires too many chiefs and not enough indians. Too many of those chiefs have no clue what they are doing. One AVP for every employee seems a bit much.
They lowball existing proven employees who keep the place running during the yearly review process, then bring in a new person who knows nothing at a higher wage.
    Not matching 401K
Rushes to get new releases out, which results in software that works, just not very good and with little to no documentation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When you use fear and intimidation as a way to motivate people, you will not always be told the truth.

I have been working at XIFIN full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The company has decent vacation and other benefits. The QA and software teams are very easy to work with. The business development group seems to have their stuff together because they seem to make money regardless of their underlying technology.

    Cons

This is not a company that is nimble, nor cutting edge, which may be appropriate for the medical market it works in. There seem to be three managers with opinions on anything that needs to be done and no one is willing to stand up for the right way to do something. I wouldn't work here if you enjoy creating great technology.

I have been working at XIFIN full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Casual dress, free soda fountain, bagels on Fridays. Great friendly people. Positive outlook for future growth. Accrue third week vacation beginning day one of fourth year. Normal holidays plus two floating for a total of 7. Company does not operate on the PTO model.

    Cons

Hiring has not kept up with growth. Some outside hires into upper Mgmt caused more harm than help. Those capable rarely promoted, but good enough to train those from outside hired above them. Does not make sense. Some Depts are the "golden child" and all decisions made to help them, whether or not to the detriment of others.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talk to your employees. Listen to them. Understand the everyday obstacles to success. Get rid of upper mgmt from the outside if they haven't learned the system or made positive change in the first year.
