I have been working at Xandros (More than a year)

    Pros

There are many opportunities to make money due to the constant new product lines that are being acquired or developed. Some are Scalix (Open Source email), Apps To Market, ASUS Linux Operating System and more

    Cons

The environment is very hectic and the comp plans vary due to many new products and the new investors that are constantly injected into the company globally

  6. Interesting work - unless you actually want to get paid

    Pros

Xandros has interesting products in interesting technicals niches (app stores, server management, messaging, unified communications). If you're interested in working in a challenging environment in these technicals areas, then you'd like the tasks assigned to you.

    Cons

As interesting as the work may be, Xandros has a habit of not paying their employees. At one point, they had more than 100 employees working on a variety of software. Unfortunately, in 2009, they decided that they didn't have to pay those employees. Most of those employees quit in early 2010. All of the employees are still waiting for Xandros to pay the Ontario government the minimum severance required by law. Currently, the company has only 6-8 remaining employees (still not getting paid) who recently got kicked out of the offices that are posted on their website (because they stopped paying rent). Fortunately, those offices were terrible. Half of the desk chairs were broken. There was mold on the walls from water leaking in during the winter. So, if you'd like to work on interesting technology, without getting paid, this is the place for you. If you do like to get paid for your work, I'd recommend somewhere else.

    Advice to Management

When you don't pay your employees and when you constantly change the messaging about when they'll get paid, you're going to lose all of them. At this point in the game, I'd put serious consideration into whether the company remains viable.

    Pros

Quite a few interesting products. Good variety of opportunities to work on different stuff. Lots of cool new toys coming in all the time.

    Cons

Management lacks direction and is not very competent at dealing with employees. There is no real HR department so we have ham-handed VPs dealing with HR matters and generally ballsing them up.

    Advice to Management

Make the tough decisions. Cut the areas that need to be cut. Hire some people to deal with the human issues.
