Pros
Flexibility, work life balance, ability to work on many varied projects, cool technology, relaxed culture, managers that used to be engineers themselves.
Cons
xerox is getting out of the business of product development more and more every year. job cuts every year. printing is not a growth industry. everything is going paperless.
Advice to Senior Management
think about your employees as much as you think about your shareholders. you have to invest money to make money.
Pros
Generally allowed great latitude on direction of my own work. A great deal of flexibility is given regarding time off. These pros likely vary a great deal depending on your manager.
Cons
In 4 of the past 5 years, Xerox has frozen salaries for all (not including those eligible for bonuses, options, etc) employees. In the 5th year, Xerox paid an average raise of 2%. This has led to the exodus of a great deal of talent.
Advice to Senior Management
Start to value employees in real measureable terms. Actively convey upper management's vision to employees, such that they can formulate their own long term career plans.
Pros
The work is interesting, the people I work with are great. The technology we are playing in awesome and could be powerful if put into the correct markets
Cons
Upper Upper management are slow to react to anything. They allow projects to proceed for years and them cancel them at the end. Xerox bought ACS and the cost of that acquisition is starving off all the technology groups. They have not given raises in 5 years but will spend $500M - $1B to buy back stock. They clearly don't care about employees and are shipping jobs overseas as fast as they can
Advice to Senior Management
Pick a path and follow it through
Pros
Great people, interesting technology, very nice campus and close to my home.
Cons
We know our jobs will be outsourced or eliminated in the future.
Much of the company is still doing business as if it's the 60’s.
Cost cutting every where.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop restructuring every year, this isn't good for the share holders and it is detrimental to the mental health of the employees.
Pros
Training, experience, continuous learning, vacation time off, learning to manage parts, territory, car expenses, etc.
Cons
not value you as an employee
Advice to Senior Management
listern to your customers and then listen to the people you manage
Pros
- Collaborative environment
- Active use of technology
- Pushing the engineering envelope
- Great place to live
- Smart people
Cons
- Difficult industry
- WV location not viewed as part of "old" Xerox on the east coast
- Does not pay competitively
Pros
Coworkers are great people and very talented.
Cons
Bureaucracy has always been very heavy. Execution of change in company direction is being handled poorly.
Pros
Interesting products
One of the last remaining technology hot-spots in the company
Good work/life balance
Good culture -- customer and data focused
Cons
No place to go if you're a senior engineer
Outsourcing of engineering work has soured the mood
Eroding benefits. Low pay raises.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep doing everything you can to take better care of your employees.
Pros
Great lower level management, good culture in Wilsonville, flexible time off, good vacation policy, very intelligent engineering staff, groups work very well together
Cons
Poor senior management, no vision of the future, benefits have been continually degraded to an extremely poor level over the last five years, poor pay, they don't value their employees, they don't value innovation
Advice to Senior Management
To run a technology company you have to make long term investments. Xerox is only interested in how their investments will raise next quarter's gross profits. If you want to work as a low paid telemarketer, than there may be a future for you at Xerox. If you are an engineer you are just a liability that Xerox is trying to dispose of.
Pros
great technology
great people to work with
cutting edge innovation
top notch brand-name
striking out into creative new territories (business proces outsourcing, solutions, etc.)
Cons
It is a big company and there is a lot of red-tape. The company needs to return to its roots of focusing on bringing innovative solutions and products to market.
Advice to Senior Management
Get back to valuing engineering and innovation. Spend less time "measuring" and more time delivering. Value the employees and they will bend over backwards for the company.
