Good Employer to Receive Training for Next Job

I worked at Xerox full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    - Great Training!
    - Decent general manager staff.
    - Great internal communication
    - Group moral is great.
    - Gift card for overtime program is nice. Raises net pay a little.
    - Reasonable chance to apply for management positions.
    - Internal values are great.
    - Great next level support.

    Cons

    - Unrealistic metrics that cap pay between $9.60 and $10.50/hr, you will almost never ever make $13/hr for more than 30 days.
    - Poor staffing decisions that lead to months of mandatory overtime and long hold times that will kill your metrics and lead to management getting on your case.
    - Pay that is below industry and geographic area.
    - Stress full technical work helping customers for low pay.
    - Performance metrics leave negative reviews on your score card for about on average a month, two to three weeks if you work like an absolute dog. Also the customer has a chance to ding you every week.
    - Unreasonable average handle time expectations for role, leaving employees stressed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Start pay at $11-12/hr with a decent metrics plan that tops out at $16. This way if you work hard you can make $13 or $14/hr consistently, because customer survey systems have a high negativity bias, therefore it's impossible to consistently sustain top performance.
     - Move to a 30 day system not a week to week metric system that also leaves negative feedback on your metrics for about a month. Cannot stress this enough! It must change or the company will continually shed employees.

I worked at Xerox full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Back in 2000 management supported R&D effort and cared about employees.

    Cons

Recent years focus on services and eliminating R&D and whatever is left is being off-shored.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quality of engineers are not equivalent therefore costing more than meet the eye. Need to evaluate the actual cost of doing business off-shore.

I worked at Xerox full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I worked in a casual environment without managers that hover. I was trusted to do my job and keep our client satisfied.

    Cons

I got stuck into a position that I didn't get hired for. I started as an admin assistant. I was assigned to a new position for business politics' sake. I made the best of it.

I have been working at Xerox full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Work-life balance, four weeks vacation after 10 years, and the job itself is great.

    Cons

However, the salary is abysmal. Upper Management claims the base pay is competitive and we should be happy that we have jobs. Way to lead by example.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The worker bees make a corporation successful, not the queen bee.

I worked at Xerox as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

The people are fantastic, best group for knowledge and sharing of that knowledge anywhere. Super helpful and more than happy to help you help them and Xerox as a company. The technology is constantly evolving. The location in Wilsonville is central to all things on the Willamette.

    Cons

The contract was too short, I really enjoyed working there and wished there had been an FTE position available. Hoping there comes one in the near future!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I was contract to Xerox, I enjoyed working there very much.

I worked at Xerox full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Fair pay and benefits, some interesting work.

    Cons

Poor decision making, run top down, unable to get anything done because of bureaucracy, stifling any innovation or pride in job. This company is run by a CEO playing with financial spreadsheets rather than talking to people, who is surrounded by executives playing politics and jockeying for position. No one at the top knows much, so makes poor decisions and then gets frustrated when the affected teams fail to perform.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of Ursula and the top couple of layers of executives, push decision making down to the people that know what is going on.

I worked at Xerox full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Nice environment. Apple training was good. Supportive middle management.

    Cons

Pay scale 1/3 what Apple pays for the same position. Not everyone can do this job. Attrition was high.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give people a reason to stay. A very hard job should be paid accordingly.

I worked at Xerox full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Met some great people (fellow employees).

    Cons

Everything else! I had a nervous breakdown because of this job, which finally drove me to quit. Having to deal with customers being angry about things that I could not (as much as I wanted to) help them with because of company policies. Supervisors getting angry because I would want to transfer customers to them because a) customers would want me to and b) negative surveys impact your pay...as does taking time in between calls to simply take a break or finish your business. Also, you will get a weekly review where your supervisor just tells you everything wrong you're doing with maybe a a comment or two about the positives. Oh, and don't believe them when they say it's not a sales position. You get in trouble for not offering certain things to the customer as well. VERY clear where there was a high turnover rate at my office; no one wanted to be there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your people like people. We are NOT machines!
