I worked at Xerox as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

The people are fantastic, best group for knowledge and sharing of that knowledge anywhere. Super helpful and more than happy to help you help them and Xerox as a company. The technology is constantly evolving. The location in Wilsonville is central to all things on the Willamette.

    Cons

The contract was too short, I really enjoyed working there and wished there had been an FTE position available. Hoping there comes one in the near future!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I was contract to Xerox, I enjoyed working there very much.

    I worked at Xerox

    Pros

Once a company that set the standards for quality and innovation.
    Good salaries.
    Good benefits
    Great employees

    Cons

CEO went from quality and innovation to thinking services is everything and technology is nothing but a drain to the bottom line

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Board of Directors - Consider the successful management qualities of past management at the CEO level and begin recruiting or developing that talent again. You are not likely to find it within the company any longer though.

I worked at Xerox full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Back in 2000 management supported R&D effort and cared about employees.

    Cons

Recent years focus on services and eliminating R&D and whatever is left is being off-shored.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quality of engineers are not equivalent therefore costing more than meet the eye. Need to evaluate the actual cost of doing business off-shore.

I have been working at Xerox full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Work-life balance, four weeks vacation after 10 years, and the job itself is great.

    Cons

However, the salary is abysmal. Upper Management claims the base pay is competitive and we should be happy that we have jobs. Way to lead by example.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The worker bees make a corporation successful, not the queen bee.

I worked at Xerox full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Fair pay and benefits, some interesting work.

    Cons

Poor decision making, run top down, unable to get anything done because of bureaucracy, stifling any innovation or pride in job. This company is run by a CEO playing with financial spreadsheets rather than talking to people, who is surrounded by executives playing politics and jockeying for position. No one at the top knows much, so makes poor decisions and then gets frustrated when the affected teams fail to perform.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of Ursula and the top couple of layers of executives, push decision making down to the people that know what is going on.

I worked at Xerox full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The people that I worked with were incredible. For the majority of the time that I worked at Xerox everyone cared about the products that we were producing and wanted the company to be successful. In the last few years, that started to change. It started to be about the bottom line, and nothing more. I had some amazing managers to learn from.

    Cons

The employee morale was very low around the time that I left. No raises, no employee appreciation by higher management. If a manager wanted to show appreciation for their direct reports, they had to pay for it out of their own pocket. I saw where long time employees were laid off and then hired back as contractors. Just a general disrespect for the workers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees should be treated like assets instead of expenses.

    Pros

Good people, good work life balance. Good place to learn for new hires

    Cons

Too many layoffs and lack of buy in to long term direction. Little to no salary increases.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate more to your employees. Engage them on the journey, even if the journey is difficult.

I worked at Xerox full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

A great team of people that work together well to develop printers. The focus is on solving problems and there is not a lot of politics (at least at the technical / non-management level). Also the company is big, so if a needed resource is not available on site it can usually be found elsewhere in the company.

    Cons

Post 2012 the focus of the company shifted to from product development to services, and most of the Wilsonville technical development staff has left. The morale of the remaining people is low.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Project schedules are almost always too optimistic. The run over causes groups to continue to support projects when people and other resources were planned to go on to other work. It seems that project planning could be more accurate, if only by factoring in history from past projects.
