I have been working at Xtreme Labs full-time

    Pros

Working at Xtreme Labs has allowed me to learn multiple mobile platforms. I have helped lead mobile projects, giving me the learning experience to see a mobile project come together from inception. There is tons of opportunity to learn new technologies, positions and career paths within the company.

    Cons

Pair programming takes getting used to. Now I am all for pair programming. When you start, you get thrown right into the deep end which can be a bit scary for junior developers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Xtreme Labs as an intern

    Pros

Xtreme is now Pivotal Labs Toronto site.
It's one of the best internship experiences I've ever had. I got to work on exciting mobile apps that ship into the app store right away. My pair was nice and very smart, I learned a lot while working with him, and the designer team is also professional and nice to collaborate with.
The company is fast speed. There are weekly scheduled demos where you can demo the project that you are working on, share and also learn from other projects. I also liked the weekly 'lunch and learn'; lunch is provided and there's interesting tech talk/presentation. Tons of emails on tech news and interesting projects going around everyday, the company culture is amazing.
Have to mention the breakfast -- great quality and really encourage people to come early. There's also dinner if you have to work late.

    Cons

Pair programming may not be so great when it comes to tight deadlines.

I worked at Xtreme Labs as an intern (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Xtreme Labs has a very casual work environment, and there are lots of other interns, so you won't feel alone. If you're from UofT or Waterloo, chances are you're working with some of your friends. Friday socials can be fun.

    Cons

Work days are long. It's essentially 9-6, which is not very convenient if you want to do things after work. I also joined during a period of growth, so my experience was that your full-time pair-programmer, who you're supposed to be learning from, might know as little as you about the project, or have joined the company later than you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Workers who wish to start and finish the work day earlier should be accommodated a bit more. A lot of people would rather leave at 5.

    Pros

    Very chill environment
    Company is growing fast
    Games room!
Chance to work on real huge projects

    Cons

A bit disorganized but that's it. You may get assigned to a project you don't like and they won't reallocate you.

I have been working at Xtreme Labs as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

    - free breakfast & dinner every day. Tuesdays free lunch and learn
    - loads of free snacks, coffee machines, drinks on every floor
    - a lot of students (60 interns summer 2013) from UW and UofT to chill with in the game room and go for lunch with
    - very skilled and knowledgeable full timers to mentor you, mostly younger crowd in their 20s
    - full timers were pretty cool
    - some pretty cool apps Xtreme does
    - learn a lot and given a lot of responsibility
    - games room has foosball and pool table with a ps3 and wii. foosball was always fun.
    - moving to larger and nicer office
    - close to subway King station and there are a lot of places around to go for at lunch
    - Friday socials starting after demos at 5, hard liquors and tons of beer.
    - sign out any device
    - rapidly growing
    - 27 inch iMacs

    Cons

    - office space was cramped, felt like a sweatshop sometimes. allowed for good communication though
    - pair programming sucks sometimes
    - stayed late a few times project was going red status, voluntarily of course since I felt bad for full timers who would have had to stay later
    - bellow competitive pay for the type of contracts they've been getting and for the work being put in

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I saw a lot of projects going red status and full timers staying back for hours quite, sometimes past midnight or coming in weekends. Projects should be managed more carefully and scoped better.

I have been working at Xtreme Labs full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Chance to learn so many different things i.e. platforms, languages
Benefits are very good (except vacation).
People are very nice. Everybody seems like love what he\she is doing
Awesome tools. 27' iMac, mac pro retina, air, aeron chairs ... you name it
    Company grows very fast

    Cons

Space. But that is addressed already. Going to move to a way bigger place.
Pair programming. Depends on how senior you are. For people just come in this industry, that is perfect for them to learn things under somebody's shadowing. For senior ones, it might be uncomfortable. But they should never pair two seniors together (at lease they are trying not to), unless there is tough piece of work.
Salary. Because of all pros above, they can sometimes (AFAIK) get talented people with less price than others.
Wish they could have 15 days of vacation ...

I worked at Xtreme Labs as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Great people, great location in downtown Toronto, fun environment to work. Free snacks and breakfast everyday. People are encouraged and sponsored to go to conferences/workshops to learn about the latest mobile technology. They are probably the hottest mobile development shop in Canada right now and have a lot of big clients so there is definitely a lot of growth potential. You also get the opportunity to work directly with the clients or business to take part in the the design of the application .

    Cons

Work can become a little repetitive after a while. Pair programming might not be everybody's thing and definitely takes some time to get used to.
