    Pros

None. There is literally no pros that I can think of.

    Cons

Delays... Xyratex team gives out commit dates as if the commit dates mean nothing. Commit dates are Moving target. Worst & unprofessional. Seagate will be better of spinning off xyratex. The whole xyratex business runs off escalations.

    Advice to Management

Seagate management should spin off xyratex or move development and mfg from UK to Asia.

    Pros

Benefits and salary, people are great and teams pull together to get the work delivered. People feel that they are all in this together.

    Cons

Pressure and constant changes of direction is a cause for huge frustration. Long hours culture is a problem in some teams.

    Advice to Management

Management need more people skills as many are engineers at heart and need to be trained. HR need to be given more resources to be proactive in their approach, it would help having an HR director on the Board to promote a good people culture.

    Pros

People are intelligent, hard working and committed in most departments I worked/interacted with. Friendly work environment. Good work life balance.

    Cons

Top level management is full of false promises. In every all-hands meet they will tell you how great their plans are and yet in the next all-hands, you won't hear them talking about their previous plans (because they have been utter failures). A lot of employees are dissatisfied with how pathetic the management are and in how little recongnition/compensation the employees who actually do work get from the management. It's sad to see a set of good and dedicated people's skills being wasted with a directionless management.

    Advice to Management

Recognise people for their work. Don't make promises/plans statements if you are never going to fulfill or implement them.

    Pros

You get to work with some great people, who work hard in their jobs, even though they will get no appreciation or recognition from management.

    Cons

Management couldn't tell you what their staff actually do in a lot of cases. People who were good at the jobs they were doing have been made redundant and people who were barely satisfactory were kept on. This is mainly seen as being being they know the right people. Time and time again, you see people getting promoted to a new job, without the job even being advertised within the company. People will work very hard, day in, day out for little or no recognition and yet, other people could be lacking work, but get a sudden rush of work for a couple of days and get far more recognition for it. There are a lot of people that work hard within a group, working with people who put it very little effort, yet when it comes to bonuses and pay rises, they will be given the same. This leads to those who are hard working having no motivation to carry on working hard. You are "Part of a team" only when it suits management.

    Advice to Management

Take the time to actually know what your staff are doing and work out who is working hard and who could be doing more. Treat everyone within your department with the same standards. Motivate your staff and give them praise where due. Hopefully Seagate will start getting their own people to Xyratex's sites and see how poorly they are run and start to give Xyratex employees some real structure instead of expecting people to be doing jobs that they are not being paid to do.
