Horrible

Store Manager (Current Employee)
Winnipeg, MB (Canada)

I have been working at YM Inc. full-time for more than 3 years

ProsIt was easy to move up because of high turnovers, I met great people

ConsTerrible people to work for, the company is selfish and they always want you to make unrealistic budget, I definitely got underpaid as a store manager, no support from head office, they don't care about employees, we always stay late to clean up

Advice to Senior ManagementIt's not about money all the time, things change, markets change, please put that into consideration. Please pay your people more because we work really hard to clean up the store cuz it gets so messy, no matter how much you maintain it.

Need to work extremely hard and with no appreciation of all hard work that was put in.

Upper Management (Former Employee)
Toronto, ON (Canada)

I worked at YM Inc. full-time for more than 10 years

ProsLow salaries and decent bonuses but with extremely high standards.

ConsNo recognition, appreciation and respect for seniority. Lack of structure and lack of respect for others. Too many hours needed and no balance in work and family life.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to respect others for their hard work and dedication and consider all factors prior to concluding. Need to respect family life of staff and must have a balance. Need to increase base salaries.

Horrible & Frustrating Experience To Say The Least..

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Toronto, ON (Canada)

I worked at YM Inc. full-time for more than 5 years

Pros- Good group of co-workers at the store level (at both stores that I worked at) probably the reason why I stayed as long as I did
- Product has improved ten fold in the last couple of years alone and product prices are reasonable

Cons- cut corner's wherever they can (shifts, hours, pay, supplies etc)
- non existent support from upper management (DM's/RM's only show up when their job is on the line)
- H/O & HR are disorganized and care more about their own convenience as apposed to employees benefits or needs
- incredibly low wages and minimal chance of ever seeing a raise (if you get lucky enough to get one, it will be severely delayed)
- make your life hell when you get injured on the job (no support or care when WSIB is involved)
- False promises are an everyday thing at this company (promise to move up quickly, promise of raise, promise of specific stock, promise of more petty cash, promise that an "acting" assistant or manager position would be yours after a couple months) none of which came through

Advice to Senior Management- You cant give people more responsibility with no pay increase, giving a title of acting assistant
- promote from within, instead of bringing in useless seriously unqualified people who know nothing about the company, that way your turn over rate wont be through the roof!
- appreciate your employees, in all my years at this company I've seen some hard really workers who never received the recognition or promotions that they deserved
- invest in and train all of your employees the same way, so when you transfer to a different store you are not undergoing a relearning process

Depends on who you work with

Allocation Analyst (Former Employee)

I worked at YM Inc. full-time

ProsNice people to work with (in my department anyway)
Bonuses every month if your department makes its goals (and trust any bonus is nice!)
Great work experience . . learned a LOT within my first few months of being there.

ConsSalary could be better
Appreciation from the executives would go a long wayyyy
Long work hours, not all of the work seems to be evenly distributed
Preparation and training courses would also go a very long way so that you aren't blindsided by anything.

Advice to Senior ManagementOverall I had a pleasant experience working here and I owe that to all the people I worked with in my department. My upper management team was very approachable and reasonable. (Not everyone is like that there) If you get a chance to work in the allocation department consider yourself VERY lucky!!

Good learning experience.

Store Manager (Current Employee)
Hamilton, ON (Canada)

I have been working at YM Inc. full-time for more than a year

Pros- Fashionable product
- Reasonable prices
- Nice staff

Cons-The discount is ONLY 20%! Which is absolutely ridiculous! Allow your employees to purchase merchandise with a better discount, enforce a dress code and you'll see a profit soon enough!
- Always made broken promises
- Everyone talks about "setting you up for success" but its all a lie
- DM's are either so far up your a** or not there at all.. never a happy medium
- Support from H/O would be wonderful!
- Full training would be great

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in your Managers, stop paying them peanuts and maybe there won't be high turn over! Also, provide everyone with full training ie: hold Fashion workshops, Visual workshops, Loss Prevention Meetings, etc.
