I have been working at YMCA full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Flexibility of job, paid days off, addition sick leave balance (30 day max), 12% paid retirement. Additional 403b retirement options, flexible health savings account, CDA, 50% all programs, free family membership

    Cons

Lack of raises to keep up with cost of living, micromanaged, inflexibility to grow especially with technology. No promotions, stretched resources by building instead of investing in current staff. Too much expansion, too soon.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When will staff be promoted? Why are we locked into exact job descriptions from the last two decades? When will identifying talent and getting "the right person on the bus in the right seat" be a priority. What got us to the current standing will not get us to the next stage in city status and financial stability.

    I worked at YMCA

    Pros

Leadership is great to work for. They believe in work/life balance. Feel good about what you do.

    Cons

Impossible to start a family on the low salary.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to pay to keep the best people if you want to take the ymca to that next level.

I have been working at YMCA full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great place to work with amazing core values being at the core of the company. You feel like you are changing the world every day no matter if you are front line staff or an a management position. Depending on your manager there are very good opportunies to grow in your career or stay stagnant in your current position.

    Cons

Politics rule major management desicions, instead of the degree of work performed. Time off is rare to none as you are constantly on call in a management position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the mission in the front of all hiring descions.

I have been working at YMCA full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The schedule was definitely a perk along with what I learned on the job. I appreciated the experience working with the state and managing a larger budget.

    Cons

The work relationship with my superior. Too much Micromanagement and stepping on my toes. Asked to come in and make changes and then all the changes I made were overturned. A waste of my time in trying to create a better work environment.

I have been working at YMCA full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Opportunity for growth depending on the department and management, can work across departments, good job for entry level education field, rewarding job

    Cons

Had to re interview for positions every summer and every school year so raises never become effective, highest raise possible with great evaluation 17 cents, reviews are meant to reflect that you are basic when fufilling all job responsibilities, high turnover, was willing to employ siblings and have them manage their siblings which made for low morale, lots of cliques

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't let siblings supervise other siblings.

    Pros

    -Free gym membership

    -fun work environment

    Cons

The pay is very low. They will get a lot out of you and give a little in return.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to be present more. There is almost always a time when a director is needed, especially on the weekends and no one is available.

Leaves you with a great feeling that you are able to help the community and families in need. Providing affordable programs to children and seniors give you a sense of accomplishment and something you can be proud of.

    Cons

Due to it's non profit status the pay is minimal and hours are long.
