I worked at Yahoo as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Manager was good but doesnt have any technical knowledge.

    Cons

Lot of politics I guess.. Directors to L2 and till Merissa , Senior guys who are working for more that 4-5 years are given preference even though they are not at all useful for the company.

    Advice to Management

Think beyond the old guys time to change them.

    Pros

Yahoo is an awesome work place who really care about their people and grow them on job via appropriate L & D program. Yahoo's reward and recognition system is phenomenal. And if you are smart, hard worker and putting the best effort, you don't need ask for your reward. It is well recognised. It is one of the best technology company and pool of talent.

    Cons

I can't think of one cons for this org.

    Advice to Management

    Non

I have been working at Yahoo full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lot of smart people to work with, too good in using latest technologies.

    Cons

Very less salary compare to market, based on rating only layoff is possible no promotion or hike is considered on rating. Layoffs have not been consistent in performance. Lot of uncertainty at work place.

    Advice to Management

Either scrap the rating system or if want to consider then consider it properly not only for layoffs.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Yahoo full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Work culture is superb. Lots of avenues for expressing creativity. Was quite open and transparent in the beginning (about 7 years ago). Learning and development department conducts good trainings on a multitude of things from hadoop to interviewing skills. Opportunities to grow were good till about 3 years back.

    Cons

Teams are siloed. No one knows (or even wants to know) what other teams are doing. All-hands are insanely boring, more like mundane project status meetings. There was a time when the "snacks" during these all-hands was like a full-fledged buffet. It's now reduced to one cupcake or quiche. CEO talks of transparency, but there is hardly any. People are not involved in much decision making. There is no passion for the product or for the customer. It's all about delivery delivery and delivery. Tech Pulse has just become a show of strength now rather than a platform for innovation. It seems Bangalore center is trying too hard to show it's value to Sunnyvale. Senior leadership is little or absent. It's like a captainless boat swaying to the winds that blow from Sunnyvale. They try too hard to monetize everything, and all monetization is mostly about ads. No emphasis on products or user experience (UX has degraded from iteration to iteration).

    Advice to Management

Advise to CEO: Get rid of non-performing unnecessary managers and directors and VPs and SVPs. Not sure why so many levels are required here in India. Even with so many levels, its mostly the engineers running the show all the way.
