Pros
As a leaf node, you really don't care about the overall status of the company. But the work done here is great!
Cons
The current state of the company. As a result of which the salaries are slightly lower than say Adobe, Microsoft.
Advice to Senior Management
Give way for younger people. We know technology!
Secondly, moving away and positioning ourself as a media company is not great.
Pros
Easy to navigate websites and user interface.
Cons
Management's lack of focus and leadership
Advice to Senior Management
Pick a top senior management team.
Pros
Yahoo is a great place to get your feet wet with Internet technologies and big datasets. The office culture is very pleasant and there are still a lot of very talented people working here.
Cons
Yahoo has been in decline for a long time, and I don't see any light at the end of the tunnel. The company has lost a huge amount of talent over the past few years, especially after the search deal with MS.
Advice to Senior Management
Find a way to make Yahoo cool again. Branch out into some new markets that aren't completely occupied by FB and Google. Release some daring new products and don't worry about trying to be like Google. Find your own identity and carve out your own slice of the pie.
Pros
- Good work and life balance
- If you are present in the right org you will see good benefits/bonus
Cons
- Senior management is not sure what the next steps should be for the company at large
- Need more assistance for ambitious projects.
Advice to Senior Management
- Have a clear revenue plan for the company and good acquisition strategy
- Improve alignment of the company to focus on technology related project
Pros
Nice place, great technology, good food.
Cons
If you're a program manager, you are treated badly. Only programmers have any status at all. You are a temp employee.
Advice to Senior Management
Program management isn't the same as secretarial work, take it more seriously. Some senior people are given real power becaue they have friends, but when a new persion with senior experience is hired, they aren't allowed to do the job.
Pros
Great Talent
Excellent culture
Rich History
Huge impact at end user level
Cons
Need strong leadership
Needs better management framework
Pros
yahoo have some interesting projects
Cons
incompetent coworkers will drive you crazy
Advice to Senior Management
do better job to manage
Pros
Great benefits. Great flexibility with time.
Cons
They have lost their identity. Current management is inept.
Pros
Great people and a positive company culture. Nice perks like free fancy coffee drinks and regular company parties. For me personally, I thought all my bosses were generous and fair.
Cons
The constant spectre of layoffs brought down morale. Many of my close friends at the company got laid off. There were too many organizational re-orgs which didn't really make any difference.
Advice to Senior Management
Be honest with your employees when the company is going through difficult times. Everyone knew the issues going on, so we'd rather hear the truth rather than a bunch of everything-is-wonderful cheerleading.
Pros
Very supportive staff, great pay
Cons
Employees at Yahoo! work in cubicles. The interior is gray and purple which is pretty drab. When you work in a cubicle there really isn't any socialization so connecting with other employees can be difficult.
Advice to Senior Management
The leadership was great and very supportive
